Press Release - Exciting Details Unveiled for Pokémon Masters, a New Adventure Coming to Mobile Devices

Planned for release in summer 2019, the strategy and battling game features a never-before-seen location, Trainers past and present, and new ways to battle!

TOKYO—June 27, 2019—DeNA Co., Ltd. (henceforth DeNA), in partnership with The Pokémon Company, unveiled additional information about the upcoming mobile game Pokémon Masters, which is planned to release globally on iOS and Android devices in summer 2019. In Pokémon Masters, players will embark on a new adventure to form teams of Trainers and their partner Pokémon and engage in 3-on-3 real-time battles.

Take the treasured bond between Trainer and Pokémon to the next level in an all-new location—the island of Pasio—where Trainers from every Pokémon region gather to compete

Pokémon Masters takes place on the island of Pasio, where the rules of battle are different and the treasured bond between Trainer and Pokémon is taken to the next level with sync pairs—the combination of a Trainer and their partner Pokémon. For the very first time in a Pokémon game, Trainers and their partner Pokémon from every Pokémon region will come together to form sync pairs. Players can team up with duos such as Korrina & Lucario, Brendan & Treecko, Clair & Kingdra, and many more. With all sorts of Trainers on Pasio, there are sure to be some exciting and unexpected encounters in this new story.

At launch, there will be 65 sync pairs to recruit in Pokémon Masters, with additional sync pairs to come following the game’s release.

Form a team of three sync pairs, and battle to become champion of the Pokémon Masters League

In Pokémon Masters, players will explore Pasio to meet various Trainers and make new friends while progressing through the story. Once a player has made friends with other sync pairs, they can recruit those friends to form a team of three sync pairs (meaning three Trainers and their three partner Pokémon) and battle AI (artificial intelligence) opponents to become champion of the prestigious Pokémon Masters League tournament.

Command a team of Pokémon and Trainers in 3-on-3, real-time battles in this strategy and battling game

Pokémon Masters introduces a new way to battle in the Pokémon world. Players will command a squad of three sync pairs in real-time team battles and release a barrage of moves—all while the AI opponent unleashes theirs at the same time. For the very first time in a Pokémon game, players can also direct Trainers in battle to use moves and healing items to increase a Pokémon’s stats. In addition to standard moves, players can occasionally deploy sync moves—powerful attacks performed by specific sync pairs.

Players will need to ration their move gauge, which refills over time, to deploy the best moves at the most opportune times to lead their squad to victory.

“The Pokémon brand has captured the imagination of the world, and we are honored to create the newest Pokémon adventure for mobile devices with Pokémon Masters,” said Isao Moriyasu, CEO of DeNA. “We look forward to sharing new ways to battle when the game releases.”

“For years, fans have created enduring memories engaging with their favorite Pokémon characters throughout the Pokémon video game series,” said Tsunekazu Ishihara, president and CEO of The Pokémon Company. “With DeNA’s development expertise, we’re excited to bring together past and present Trainers and their partner Pokémon in a unique gaming experience that will delight fans around the world.”

Pokémon Masters will be available worldwide as a free-to-start game with in-app purchases on compatible iOS and Android devices, with release planned for summer 2019. The game will be available in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Traditional Chinese.

Corocoro Online has updated with the third part of the Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution Legend/Legend Collaboration Artwork Project. Translations follow:

The "Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution" Premiere Celebration Project! Part 3: Kosaku Anakubo of "Pocket Monsters Corocoro Ver." Fame Draws "A Rebirth Transcending Time! That One Legendary Pokémon!"

Kosaku Anakubo, creator of "Pocket Monsters Corocoro Ver.", once again drew this one Pokémon with intense passion!!

"Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution", the full 3DCG remake of the legendary movie that served as the starting point for the Pokémon movie series, finally premieres Friday July 12th!!

To celebrate this return of the legend itself, legendary manga artists and celebrities that love Pokémon have drawn pictures based on "Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution"!

For this third installment, the creator of the well known manga "Pocket Monsters" for the Corocoro magazines, Kosaku Anakubo, joins the project!! His series started running in Corocoro Comic in 1996, before even the anime had had its 1997 premiere, making it the first ever work of fiction to be based on the "Pocket Monsters" franchise! Lots of Pokémon, with Pippi as the centerpiece, play hilarious roles in this series, and of course Mewtwo is one of the bigger players.

And now, that one legendary Pokémon exclusive to "Pocket Monsters Corocoro Ver.", which has never appeared in neither the video games nor in the anime, plans to strike back!!

Artwork theme: "A Rebirth Transcending Time! That One Legendary Pokémon!"

pic

And that Pokémon's name is Mewthree??!!

This is Pippi after it gained some of Mewtwo's DNA, which happened in the chapter "Defeat the Most Formidable Pokémon!!", Mewtwo's first appearance in "Pocket Monsters Corocoro Ver.". Readers at the time probably broke out in laughter when they saw this surreal design. And it was even strong enough to overpower Mewtwo!

People still talk about what a big deal this was, and it has become an unprecedented "legend" in itself! (?)

And now, Mewthree has been reborn by the hand of Anakubo himself!!

Mewthree unfortunately doesn't appear in "Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution", but Mewtwo obviously plays a substantial role!!

We also have a special comment from Anakubo!!

The fact that I got to draw my 20 year old drawing one more time...
made my hand start to tremble, pi!
-Kosaku Anakubo

Next week we'll present a picture drawn by Manavu Kashimoto, the legendary Corocoro manga artist himself, famous for "Classking Yamazaki" and "Croket!"!!

Look forward to seeing what kind of drawing we'll get!!

A Report from the Public Dubbing Event

A public dubbing event was held in Tokyo on Thursday, June 13th, 2019.
Present at the event were Masachika Ichimura, who plays the legendary Pokémon Mewtwo, Sachiko Kobayashi, who plays Voyager, the female manager of the wharf, in addition to singing the movie's theme song "Kaze to issho ni" alongside Shoko Nakagawa, and Koichi Yamadera, who plays the mythical Pokémon Mew.
Ichimura playfully imitated Mewtwo's pose
when he entered the venue and saw the giant poster with Mewtwo on it.

The scene Ichimura was going to perform
was the famous "Who am I?" scene that nobody who saw the first movie could possibly forget.
The reporters broke out in thunderous applause in response to his brilliant delivery,
which Ichimura followed up with a whispered and reserved "What did you think?"
Director Yuyama explained that for this movie, they recorded Ichimura's line ahead of time and then animated to the audio.
Transferring Ichimura's acting to the animation like this, he said, made for an even more realistic Mewtwo.

Next up was the scene at the wharf, which Sachiko Kobayashi was going to perform.
Once again the audience applauded the sharp and magnificent performance.
Director Yuyama added that this time around, Voyager has been changed into a strong veteran that has protected the wharf for a long time.

Next up was the tense scene with Mewtwo and Mew just prior to their battle.
The audience was mesmerized by the realistic interplay between Ichimura and Yamadera.
Ichimura even got so caught up in his acting that his hand instinctively struck the Mewtwo pose.
As for Yamadera's performance of Mew, it was so good it made Director Yuyama say "For a second there I thought that really was Mew!"

After the dubbing was over,
Ichimura was asked how he felt when he was offered the role of Mewtwo. His reply of "I couldn't have been less surprised" made the audience roar with laughter.
Kobayashi, who's also well known and beloved by the younger generation under the nickname "Last Boss", was asked how the Pokémon movies had influenced her career as a singer, and replied "It's no exaggeration to say that the origin of the Last Boss is the now 21 year old "Kaze to issho ni"".
Finally, Yamadera was asked about his thoughts on the movie,
and replied "This will be a movie that will once again touch the heartstrings of those that watched it 21 years ago,
and also forever remain in the hearts of the children watching it for the first time."

There's about 1 month left until the movie premieres! Look forward to it!!
