Bugsy's Scyther is Bugsy's final Pokémon in the Azalea Town Gym Battle against Ash Ketchum. Ash's Pikachu starts the battle with Agility followed by a Thunderbolt, but Scyther counters with Double Team. Scyther then attempts a Slash attack but Ash's Pikachu is able to ward it off with a Thunderbolt. Scyther then sneaks up behind Ash's Pikachu and hits a Fury Cutter attack, which defeats it.

Scyther's next opponent is Ash Ketchum's final Pokémon, Ash's Cyndaquil. Scyther starts off with a Fury Cutter attack, but Ash's Cyndaquil is able to dodge it. Scyther then uses a Double Team attack, but Ash's Cyndaquil counters with a Flamethrower. However, it then uses Swords Dance to spin around and ward off the flames. Scyther continues to use Swords Dance to protect it from Ash's Cyndaquil's Fire-type attacks, but Ash Ketchum commands Ash's Cyndaquil to fire a Flamethrower from an aerial position right above Scyther's head. Ash's Cyndaquil then defeats Scyther with a Tackle attack.
