One day Junsa and Detective Decker visit the Sakuragi Laboratories. They explain that they've come to check the Electric type Pokémon there as part of a search for the culprit of a series of electricity theft incidents that have taken place in Kuchiba City. And after suspecting a number of the Electric type Pokémon there, including Wanpachi, they eventually arrest Pikachu for the crimes.

After interrogating Pikachu, he wasn't getting anywhere with his investigation. Pikachu then sensed an issue and ran out of the police department with Decker chasing. Pikachu was exonerated after they proved it was James' Morpeko along with Team Rocket who were responsible for the crimes. Detective Decker apologized by giving Pikachu a certificate for its work helping with the case.
