Summary
The narrator recaps of what happened in the last episode. Ash and co. are sleeping in the blimp. The blimp crashes into an island, and they wake up. Ash and Misty looks around at the big jungle. They have no clue of where they have landed. They decide to walk around. Later on, Misty gets exhausted, and Ash agrees to take a short break. Misty thinks the island is deserted, and that they will have to eat berries for the rest of their lives. Suddenly, a group of people walks out from the middle of nowhere. They immediately spot Ash's Pikachu. They start to take pictures with Pikachu and Togepi.

Ash and Misty continues to walk through the jungle to a place called Pokémon Park. Some girls welcomes Ash and Misty to the park. Pokémon Park is suppose to be a theme park. Ash and Misty are glad that they found the park. Then they find a group of people tending an injured Lapras. The three people who are with the Lapras starts to hit it with sticks because Lapras is weak. Ash and Misty runs up, and they tell the trio to leave Lapras alone. The trio sends out their Pokémon for a battle. A Spearow, Hitmonchan, and Beedrill appears. Before the battle can start, a boy comes out and starts to sketch the Pokémon. The boy notices that the trio's Pokémon are poorly trained. However, he is impressed at Pikachu's look. The boy draws Pikachu in his sketchbook. Then he takes out his voltage meter to measure the shock of Pikachu. The trio is mad that everyone is ignoring them. Their Pokémon attacks, but Pikachu zaps everyone with a Thunderbolt. The trio gets scared, and they run away. The boy sees that Lapras is hurt. He tells Ash to give Lapras some medicine. Then he runs off to find Nurse Joy.

Ash tries to give Lapras the medicine, but Lapras refuses to drink it. Lapras is taken to the Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy reports that Lapras will be fine after a rest. However, Lapras is afraid to have contact with people. The boy says that the Lapras is only a baby. The boy tells Ash and Misty that he is a Pokémon Watcher. Nurse Joy explains that a Pokémon Watcher travels around the world to observe all sorts of Pokémon. Ash introduces himself to the boy. The boy's name is Tracey. All three of them decides to help Lapras out. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is spying on Ash and co. Suddenly, three young Pokémon trainers tramples Team Rocket. They want Nurse Joy to heal their Pokémon. Ash and Misty wonders of what the Orange Crew is about. Tracey tells them that the Orange Crew is a bunch of gym leaders that trainers compete against. The trainers cannot compete in the Orange League until the gym leaders have been defeated. Ash wants to challenge the Orange Crew, but Misty reminds him that they have to get the GS Ball back to Professor Oak. So they decide to give Professor Oak a call. Professor Oak tells Ash that it is okay to compete in the Orange League. Tracey seems to be a big fan of Professor Oak. To meet Professor Oak, Tracey decides to become Ash and Misty's new traveling buddy. Nurse Joy reports that Lapras has woken up.

Ash and co. has a truck prepared to take Lapras back to the ocean. Lapras still won't listen to them. Ash decides to sing a lullaby, but Jigglypuff comes in and interrupts them. Jigglypuff sings its lullaby, and everyone falls asleep. Noticing that everyone has fallen asleep, Jigglypuff draws on their faces. Lapras still isn't communicating with Ash and co. Ash dives into the water to help Lapras. Lapras tries to run away from Ash. Team Rocket fires a smoke bomb at the group. The area gets covered with smoke while Team Rocket says their motto. Tracey gets over excited at Meowth because it can talk like a human. He wants to interview Meowth, but Jessie doesn't let him. Weezing uses a Smog attack, and Team Rocket drives away in the truck. Tracey sends out Venonat to help track down Team Rocket.

Lapras is struggling from the back of the truck. Ash spots Team Rocket, and they ride their bikes to catch up with them. James drives faster, but Ash doesn't give up. He pedals faster, and jumps onto Lapras. Ash climbs in with Team Rocket to stop the truck. Pikachu uses a Thunderbolt. James, the driver, accidently presses a button with disconnects the back of the truck with the front. The back of the truck starts to slam with the front, knocking it off balance. Team Rocket comes towards the edge of a cliff. They fall off the cliff. Ash and Pikachu are safe with Lapras. The truck rolls down backwards to the water. Ash pulls on the truck which steers it sideways. The truck is still headed for another cliff. Ash and Pikachu both try to turn the truck, but they have no luck. The truck runs right off the cliff. Ash grabs onto Lapras, telling it that they will stick together. Lapras makes a big splash in the water.

Misty and Tracey search the beach for Ash. Far out in the ocean is Ash and Pikachu who are riding on Lapras. Ash says that he has caught Lapras, and Tracey is surprised by this. Nurse Joy tells Ash that Lapras wants to stay with him. Ash plans to travel around the Orange Islands with Lapras. Tracey has decided to go with Ash and Misty. All three of them set out in the ocean on Lapras.
