The official Pokémon website has announced the new game that allows players to unlock an Eeveelution in the Pokémon Dream World later this year. Unlike the Japanese Eeveelution game Pokémon Labyrinth Great Summer Research Group (ポケモンラビリンス 真夏の大調査団) that was a large an involved flash game, Play to Befriend a Pokémon! is based off the classic Taito game Arkanoid. Players are required to have a Pokémon Trainer Club to play the game so that the resulting Eeveelution can be linked and stored with an account.

As you clear blocks, orbs representing each of the 7 Eevee evolutions fall. Collecting these is the key to winning the one you want! After the 4th level, the orbs that you collected are counted up and the majority of the orbs that you collect determines the Eeveelution you will receive from the Pokémon Dream World download. When you finish the game, you'll have the option to keep the Pokémon you've earned but once you've chosen to keep the Eeveelution, your decision is final and you cannot change the Pokémon. You can play the game over again even after you've finalized your Pokémon selection.

Press Release

Head to the Pokémon Fun Zone to befriend a Pokémon that you can meet via the Pokémon Global Link!

Play this game on Pokemon.com, and you'll be able to meet one of Eevee's seven evolutions in the Pokémon Dream World when the Pokémon Global Link website launches this spring! The Pokémon Global Link is an awesome new website connected to the Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version games for the Nintendo DS™. I won Leafeon!
It's cool that they're doing the same thing Japan did.
Well, not the exact same game, but the same prize.

I ended up getting a Jolteon. A decent game. It's a bit odd that they made a completely different flash game for the English version though.

Ok, several things to say about this 'minigame'.

1st of all, I got an Espeon. I had to retry once or twice but I finally got it in the end. This way, I won't have to befriend an Eeevee during the day in Pokémon White. It's much quicker this way!

2nd, I certainly hope the minigames of the Pokémon Dream World won't all be uninspired remakes of old-fashioned classics from the 70's or 80's. (I can see a Tetris-like minigame coming...). At least, the game worked quite well, except when the mouse cursor would suddenly get out of the game's window all of a sudden, without no apparent reason. And some of those 'bonuses' were so tricky... how many times did I die because I couldn't avoid those annoying 'speeding up bonuses', that would ultimately make the ball bounce off to its death...

By the way what did the Japanese mini-game consist of? I don't even remember hearing about one before today, actually. (And could players really get all those Pokémon seen in your minigame's link ?). Anyway it really looks like they were ready to launch the PGL today after all. Now they say it'll be launched in Spring, huh... I hope we won't have to wait too long anymore, though I do no wish them to rush anything.
