Tony is a Vermilion Gym worker who helps Visquez maintain the gym, cleanup after battles and keeps track of Trainers challenging for battles during the day. He also referees Gym battles.

Tony battled against Ash Ketchum in an official Pokémon World Championships battle. Only part of the battle was seen but it showed Ash's Riolu defeating his Electabuzz to give Ash Ketchum the match win and Ash Ketchum's ranking increased from 921 to 901 as a result of the victory.
