Summary

English Official Summary

Ash and Misty, while arguing, discover an Oddish. As Misty's Starmie weakens the Oddish, a Bulbasaur appears and fights Starmie while the Oddish runs off into the woods. Ash jumps in with his Butterfree, but the Bulbasaur is able to escape in the direction of the Oddish. Our heroes cross a river over a rope bridge that snaps, sending Brock into the river below. As Misty, Ash, and Pikachu hunt for Brock, they set off a couple of traps, finally landing in a net that hangs from a tree! Fortunately, Brock shows up to cut them down, then brings them to meet a woman named Melanie, who takes care of wounded Pokémon like the Oddish—and sets traps to defend the Pokémon from poachers. The Bulbasaur, we learn, acts as a kind of bodyguard. Misty apologizes to the Oddish for attacking it earlier, but the Bulbasaur is still hostile because it dislikes Trainers. Meanwhile, Team Rocket has discovered the area and plans to snatch the weak Pokémon. Will Team Rocket have an advantage against Pokémon that are wounded and unable to defend themselves? And will that Bulbasaur ever warm up to Ash and his friends?

Ash's hat is colored wrong at the back. It should be all red.
03:35

Paint Edit

Butterfree's Pokéball is all Red. There should be a white strip at the top.

Paint Edit

Ash's gloves are the wrong color. They should be a darker green.

Paint Edit

The baseball stadium had balloons with banners with Japanese writing on them which were painted out in the English version.

The far right banner states: And Cheap! (ニャンと安い!) which was most likely written by Nyarth as it includes his cat noise.

The middle right banner states: Cheap! Fast! Delicious! (安い!早い!うまい!)

The middle left banner states: Big sale today! (本日大売出し!)

The far left banner states: Great Mind-Blowing Service! (出血大サービス!)
14:33

Paint Edit

Bulbasaur's Bulb has bits of missing animation, obviously they were placeholders for Ash's hands.

Culture Reference

In the Japanese version, Satoshi calls out Pigeon and it uses Gust which creates a tornado. Kojiro sees the tornado and is reminded of the 'Tornado', the nickname for Hideo Nomo (野茂 英雄), a famous Japanese baseball player. In the English dub, the Kojiro Hideo Nomo reference was removed even though he played in the United States for many Major League Baseball teams.

English Dub
Ash: Pidgeotto, Gust attack!
James: And the Tornado is winding up...
Jessie: But will it strike us out?
Meowth: There goes the whole ball game!
Meowth: So what are we going to do now?!

Japanese Version
Satoshi: Pigeon, Gust!
Kojiro: Oh, Tornado.
Musashi: This isn't the time to act stupid!
Nyarth: It's a coming here-nado.
Musashi: Oh my!
Kojiro: Take us in!
Kojiro: Major League Nomo the tornado gale!
Nyarth: That's sports talk!
Musashi: You're talking about sports!

Paint Edit

Melanie's shirt color is wrong. Throughout the episode it was pink but during this scene it's red.

Satoshi gets the first starter Pokemon but its interesting to note that after traveling with him for a while, it basically returns to its protective nature but this time at the Okido Lab.

Summary:
Satoshi and his band are lost once again. After falling into a river from a rope bridge, plummeting into a pitfall and getting caught in a net, they eventually arrive at a village for remnant Pokémon which doesn't appear on any map.

In this village, battle-wounded and abandoned Pokémon can come to recuperate, and receive treatment from a kind-hearted girl named Midori.

Satoshi and friends are impressed with how she cares for injured Pokémon like this... but at that time, the Rocket Gang heads towards the village as well.
