The kanji for longevity (kotobuki 寿) was painted out in the English dub.

The poem is also a bit different as Okido refers to Yōkan in the Japanese original. Professor Oak refers to cake and tea instead as well as making the poem rhyme in the English dub.

Satoshi recalls his earlier conversation with Professor Okido in the Japanese original when he realizes that he needs to press on to catch up with his rivals. In the English dub, instead of Professor Oak's line from earlier, the narrator takes over instead.

Script Error

The history behind Ash's hat is a bit different between the Japanese original and the English dub. Ash in the English dub specifically states that he won it at the official Pokémon league expo and the commercial announcer said it was 1 of 100 that would be given away. Ash also states he sent in about a million postcards to get the hat. The English dub commercial announcer also overuses the word 'official'. Misty also states she didn't realize that the hat she sent in a postcard to get was actually offical, something Kasumi never said in the Japanese original.

Satoshi in the Japanese original says he got the cap as an official prize from the Pokémon League and implies it was sent to him, unlike Ash who said he went to a Pokémon League expo. The commercial announcer also states that everyone has a chance to get the cap. Satoshi specifically states he sent in a 1000 postcards to get the cap.

Satoshi: It wouldn't be called an Okorizaru if it wasn't angry.
