Summary
Ash and co. has arrived on Mirka Island. Ash thanks Lapras for the ride as it goes back into the Pokéball. Tracey sends out Venonat and Marill. Tracey tells Ash that he's been wanting to see this island for a very long time. A Beedrill swarms by, freaking Misty out. Tracey wants to be on this island because of the bug Pokémon. Ash starts to walk ahead, but Misty stays behind. She tells Tracey that she needs to work on her tan. Ash whispers to Tracey that Misty is afraid of bug Pokémon. Tracey teases Misty, and Misty steps on his foot.

Venonat and Marill starts to sense something nearby. Tracey takes a look with his binoculars. He sees a swarm of Caterpie. Ash wants to capture a Caterpie, but Misty doesn't let him. Tracey shouts out to Misty that there's something behind the bushes. Misty doesn't care as long as it's not a Caterpie. A Pinsir pops out, and she changes her mind. Ash and co. continues to walk in the forest. Venonat and Marill make up a great team. Suddenly, Venonat and Marill spots something behind the trees. Everyone decides to check it out. Behind the trees lies an injured Scyther. Ash looks up Scyther in his Pokédex. Scyther opens its eyes. Tracey pulls out a Potion, but Scyther jumps away from it. Ash decides to capture Scyther so that they can bring it to a Pokémon Center. Ash throws the Pokéball, but Scyther swipes the ball away. Ash tries to fight Scyther, but Tracey tells him to stop. Tracey tells Venonat to use Sleep Powder. The spores lies on Scyther, and it falls asleep. Tracey captures Scyther with a Pokéball, and they run to a Pokémon Center.

Team Rocket looks down from their balloon. A Beedrill comes flying in, and it bursts right through the balloon. The balloon falls in the middle of the forest. Team Rocket peaks from their balloon. They see a bunch of bug Pokémon such as Caterpie, Weedle, Paras, Venomoth, and Metapod. Team Rocket stares at the surroundings, wondering where they are at. A large group of Scyther surrounds them. The Scyther attacks Team Rocket, and a faint scream from Jessie can be heard.

Meanwhile, the Scyther that Tracey caught has been brought into the Pokémon Center. Nurse Joy is busy wrapping bandages around Scyther. Ash and co. notices on how Scyther wouldn't give up the fight no matter how weak it was. Scyther stares at Tracey with cold, angry eyes. When the surgery is done, Nurse Joy reports that it will take a few days before Scyther can fully recover. Chansey takes Scyther to the recovery room. Nurse Joy says that the Scyther is the leader of its swarm. She explains that a younger and more faster Scyther must've beaten it. Misty asks the reason for why the swarm wasn't with Scyther. Nurse Joy tells her that once the leader is defeated, it can no longer stay with the swarm. Unless it wins a new battle, the Scyther has to live by itself. They give Professor Oak a call. Professor Oak congratulates Tracey for his capture. Tracey doesn't think it was a real capture. Professor Oak says that the Scyther feels very lonely. Professor Oak tells Tracey that they have to help Scyther regain its confidence.

Team Rocket has finished running from the group of Scyther. James tells Jessie that her hair isn't there. Jessie looks in a mirror, and she notices that half of her hair came off. Jessie is angry and she wants revenge on the Scyther. Meowth tells her that they can capture the whole swarm of Scyther. When they get the whole swarm, they can get bonus points from the boss. Jessie begins to run back to the Scyther, but James and Meowth tackles her down. They tell her that they have to have a plan. Back at the Pokémon Center, Tracey starts to talk to Scyther. He tells Scyther that he knows what Scyther is feeling, and that it must be pretty mad. Tracey adds on that he couldn't leave Scyther by itself. He wishes that he knew how to make Scyther happy. Ash suggests that Scyther challenges the new leader of the swarm. Tracey thinks this is a good idea, and he asks for Scyther's opinion. Scyther sits on the bed thinking of what it should do.

Team Rocket spies the Scyther's swarm taking a bath. Meowth takes out their blaster gun. Jessie takes the gun and fires it at the Scyther. Goo squirts out, trapping the Scyther. Then Meowth shoots a net at the Scyther. Nurse Joy takes off Scyther's bandages. She says that Scyther is healing nicely. Hearing the swarm's call, Scyther flies out of the Pokémon Center. Scyther falls to the ground, and Tracey runs up to it. Tracey gets pushed aside, and Scyther flies away. Ash and co. follows Scyther. Meanwhile, Team Rocket has the swarm caught in a net. Jessie begins to tease the Scyther with a stick. Jessie sobs because her hair was her only companion. Now it has been destroyed. Before Jessie can do something horrible to the swarm, Tracey's Scyther cuts the net open. Ash and co. runs up. They begin laughing at Jessie's hair. While they say their motto, Arbok, Weezing, Lickitung, and Victreebel pops out. Tracey asks Team Rocket of what they plan to do with the Scyther. Team Rocket replies with a nasty response. Weezing uses Smokescreen, but Tracey's Scyther blows the smoke away. Tracey notices that Scyther is still weak. Meowth translates Scyther's response. Ash realizes that Scyther must've come back to rescue its friends. Team Rocket still teases Scyther about how the swarm left it. Pikachu is ready to attack, but Scyther tells Pikachu to not attack. Ash wants Pikachu to help Scyther, but Tracey tells Ash that Scyther needs to prove something to itself.

The battle starts. Scyther knocks down Meowth with its claws. Lickitung and Victreebel attacks, but Scyther dodges causing Lickitung getting stuck inside Victreebel. Scyther uses Double Team to avoid Arbok's attack. Scyther is getting worn out, but Ash has faith in Scyther. Victreebel uses Razor Leaf, but Scyther slices the leaves with its claws. Misty wonders how Tracey knew Victreebel was going to use Razor Leaf. Tracey tells her that he knew because of Victreebel's movements. Arbok fires a Poison Sting attack at Scyther, but it dodges. Arbok fires another Poison Sting at Scyther, but the leader runs in and blocks the attack. Jessie is mad, and she commands her Pokémon to attack the Scyther. The leader throws Scyther in the air, and Scyther hurts Team Rocket's Pokémon with a Slash attack. Jessie aims her gun at Scyther, but Pikachu shocks Team Rocket with a Thunderbolt. A Fury Swipes from Scyther causes Jessie and James to lose their hair. Team Rocket runs away.

The swarm scrapes the goo off of themselves in the water. Tracey's Scyther and the leader shakes claws with each other. Then the swarm walks off. Now Scyther feels a lot stronger. Tracey returns Scyther back into its Pokéball. Tracey tries to pose like Ash, but he doesn't do it right. Ash teaches Tracey how he does his pose. Misty complains how Tracey is acting like Ash.
