How to Play - Japanese Arcade Version
The Pokkén Tournament arcade version supports the BANAPASSPORT Card. The BANAPASSPORT Card can be purchased at amusement facilities that have supported game machines installed for 300 yen. Data from playing the game such as progress, EXP and Battle Points can be saved to a single BANAPASSPORT Card.
To begin the process of playing the game, users can either put a 100 yen coin in and then put the BANAPASSPORT on the machines reader when it prompts the user or the player can put the card on the reader and then insert the coin and it skips over the card screen completely.
Mode Select Menu
There are four main options to select from. Players have a few seconds to choose which mode they wish to play and a timer in the top right and corner indicates the amount of time remaining to choose a mode. First time players are suggested to play through the tutorial.
1. National Competition (全国対戦): The player will connect over the network and play with other human players at other shops. It will try to match with people of about the same skill but it varies due to ranking of victories and defeats and available players.
2. Single Play (シングルプレイ): Players can select the level of difficulty to play against a CPU opponent but a victory or defeat does not affect the players rank.
3. Store Competition (店内対戦): Players can play against other human players who are in the same shop but a victory or defeat does not affect the players rank.
4. Tutorial (チュートリアル): The tutorial allows players to learn the basics of how to play the game. Players can choose from three courses.
Controller
The controller is almost identical to a Super Famicom controller and unlike other fighting arcade games, it doesn't use an Arcade Joystick with its accompanying buttons. It has a D-Pad on the left side, four buttons on the right side and two paddle buttons.
D-Pad: Control the movement of the Pokémon.
