Mega Mewtwo Y is Now Available in Pokémon UNITE

Take aim and overwhelm the competition with a Mewtwo that can dominate opponents from afar.

A Mewtwo that can Mega Evolve into Mega Mewtwo X debuted on Aeos Island as a Melee All-Rounder for Pokémon UNITE’s 2nd Anniversary. Now, players can see another side of the Genetic Pokémon by obtaining a Mewtwo Unite license that allows them to unleash the awesome power of Mega Mewtwo Y! Whereas Mega Mewtwo X specializes in melee basic attacks and bolstering its defenses, Mega Mewtwo Y specializes in ranged basic attacks and raising its damage. They’re the same Pokémon but unlock completely different playstyles through unique differences in their basic attacks, moves, and Mega Evolutions.

Both Mewtwo are available as separate Unite licenses, but only one Mewtwo can be picked by each team. You can obtain Unite License Y: Mewtwo by taking part in the Mewtwo’s Crystal Cave Challenge event—where you obtain daily dice and complete missions to advance on a game board. Mewtwo’s Unite license can be obtained without using Aeos coins or Aeos gems, but you have the option to advance progress on the board more quickly by using Aeos gems.

Read on to learn more about everything this Mewtwo has to offer and to pick up some tips before you take aim and Psystrike the competition.

Mewtwo Basics

Ability: Pressure - When Mewtwo deals damage to an opposing Pokémon with a basic attack, the Mega gauge increases. The more the Mega gauge increases, the more the Pokémon’s Sp. Atk and basic attack speed increase. If the Mega gauge becomes full when Mewtwo is Lv. 5 or higher, Mewtwo Mega Evolves for a set amount of time. When Mewtwo Mega Evolves, its Sp. Atk and basic attack speed increases even more, and its movement speed increases.

Basic Attacks - When Mewtwo’s basic attacks deal damage to an opposing Pokémon, the Mega gauge increases. When Mega Evolved, Mega Mewtwo Y’s basic attacks have increased range and deal damage in an area of effect centered on opposing Pokémon. When a basic attack deals damage to an opposing Pokémon, it decreases that Pokémon’s movement speed.

Lv. 1 & 3 Moves

Confusion - Mewtwo deals damage to an opposing Pokémon and leaves it unable to act for a short time.
Barrier - Grants Mewtwo a shield for a short time. While the shield effect is active, Mewtwo’s movement speed is increased.

Lv. 5 Moves

Future Sight - Mewtwo shoves the designated opposing Pokémon and locks on to it. The locked-on Pokémon will have its movement speed decreased and take increased damage. After a set amount of time, this move deals damage to the locked-on opposing Pokémon based on the amount of damage it took while locked on. Future Sight can be upgraded so that the locked-on opposing Pokémon takes increased damage.

Psystrike - Mewtwo directs psychic waves at the designated opposing Pokémon, dealing damage to it and decreasing its movement speed. At the end of the move, Mewtwo hits the designated opposing Pokémon and nearby opposing Pokémon with a strong psychic wave, throwing and dealing damage to all opposing Pokémon it hits. The farther Mewtwo is from the designated Pokémon, the more damage this move deals. Psystrike can be upgraded to strengthen the movement speed decrease.

Lv. 7 Moves

Recover - Grants Mewtwo a shield for a short time. While the shield effect is active, Mewtwo’s movement speed is increased, and Mewtwo recovers HP based on the amount of damage it deals with basic attacks. When the shield effect is removed after a set amount of time, all of Mewtwo’s move cooldowns are reduced, and the Mega gauge increases. Recover can be upgraded to increase the amount of HP recovered from basic attacks.

Teleport - Mewtwo teleports to the designated location. For a short time, Mewtwo’s movement speed and damage dealt increase, and its basic attacks increase the Mega gauge by a greater amount. After using this move, for a short time, this move can be used again once only. Teleport can be upgraded to increase the damage dealt to opposing Pokémon.

Mewtwo’s Unite Move, Infinite Psyburn

Mewtwo brings down one powerful psychic blast upon each opposing Pokémon. Opposing Pokémon around each point of impact take damage, are left unable to act, and have their Sp. Def decreased for a short time.

Metagame Watch

Strong Against: Buzzwole - Mega Mewtwo X is a Melee All-Rounder that loves to brawl up close and personal in team fights, but Mega Mewtwo Y prefers to fire off damage from a safe distance. Recover and Teleport both provide Mewtwo with plenty of movement tools when facing powerful Melee All-Rounders like Buzzwole, who struggles to keep up with Ranged Attackers that can deal continuous damage from a safe distance. Future Sight and Psystrike help Mewtwo to chase down and seriously punish any Pokémon that can’t quickly knock it out.

Weak Against: Zoroark - Ranged Attackers thrive against slow-moving Melee Pokémon but can easily be shut down by Melee Speedsters with high damage output and exceptional movement tools. Zoroark is one of the strongest Speedsters in Pokémon UNITE and can quickly take out most Pokémon with its powerful Feint Attack combo. Still, Mewtwo can answer back with a well-timed Future Sight or Psystrike, making any battle involving the two Pokémon far from a foregone conclusion.
