Details about the Pokémon Video Game Australian National Championships 2014 have been announced my Nintendo Australia.

Press Release

Pokémon fans from around Australia and New Zealand will once again have the chance to compete in the Pokémon Video Game Australian National Championships in 2014.

In the lead up to the National Championships, fans will have the chance to learn from and test their skills against some of the best players in their city at Regional Championships to be held in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Auckland (NZ), with travel awards up for grabs to the soon-to-be-announced 2014 Pokémon Video Game Australian National Championships.

2014 Pokémon Video Game Regional Championships:

Perth - Saturday 10th May
Duxton Hotel
1 St Georges Terrace, Perth WA 6000
9am – 4pm (Registration closes 10am)

Adelaide - Sunday 11th May
Adelaide Town Hall – Meeting Hall
128 King William Street, Adelaide SA 5000
9am – 4pm (Registration closes 10am)

Sydney - Saturday 17th May
Sydney Customs House – Barnet Long Room
31 Alfred Street, Circular Quay, Sydney NSW 2000
9am – 4pm (Registration closes 10am)

Brisbane - Sunday 18th May
Queensland Museum – Theatre
Melbourne St, South Brisbane QLD 4101
9:30am – 4:30pm (Registration closes 10:30am)

Melbourne - Saturday 24th May

At the National Championships, players will battle it out on the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y games for Nintendo 3DS, where top finishers can win a trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the 2014 Pokémon Video Game World Championships, to be held 16th -17th August, 2014.

No pre-registration is required to participate, however each participant must ensure they bring:
  • A copy of either Pokémon X or Pokémon Y (Australian or New Zealand version)
  • A Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 2DS
Participants under the age of 15 are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian to complete registration.

Prizes

Prizes are awarded to the top players in each of three age divisions. Each Regional Championships will have the following prizes for each age division:

1st Place
A Travel Award to the 2014 Pokémon Video Game National Championships - Flights, Accommodation, Transfers (if required)
A Pokémon VG Regional Championships 1st Place award
A Nintendo 2DS system

2nd Place
A Pokémon VG Regional Championships 2nd Place award
A Nintendo 2DS system

3rd and 4th Place
A Pokémon VG Regional Championships 3rd or 4th Place award

Kind of weird that they're giving out a 2DS as a prize when you have to already have either a 3DS or 2DS to even enter . . . but hey I guess the winners can sell it to turn it into a cash prize. =P

I haven't really played X/Y for months and don't have a competitive team so I don't think I'll enter this year. I might go along to the Sydney one just to watch, depending on how busy I am that weekend.

Yeah I agree. If it was a Special edition or signed 2DS then I could understand why it was a prize.
