Well... It is MewTWO....
Ghosting, interlacing, excessive line sharpening, excessive grain/noise filtering and that's just in the first 2 seconds of this Bluray box set...

The denoising filter has almost completely erased Pikachu and Ash's eyes

Okido laboratory (オーキド研究所) can actually be read now in the English dub with the extra resolution that the Bluray brings.

Now the white/color balance looks pretty good here. But that means they weren't consistent in keeping the color balance the same throughout the entire episode.

Clearly not remastered and definitely upscaled with filtering to make it look HD. Pixelated garbage. False advertising much?

We aren't debating the remastered part but the "now in HD" part. After seeing the Japanese remastered version of episode 1, we were hoping they would do the entire series but clearly that wasn't the case. The USA VIZ Bluray set should probably be the exact same transfer as this Manga release.

Anyone can upscale and filter an image. Upscaling is not true HD. That requires the master to be in HD resolution. It looks like it's about 540P upscaled to 1080P for Bluray resolution. That's where we have an issue of "now in HD".

Taking down the initial color gamma, increasing the sharpness and brightness has improved it a bit

The original VHS transfer of the Japanese version has pixelating issue also. Must be interlacing artifacts of some kind.

The ACTUALLY remastered Japanese episode doesn't have the pixelated artifacts but it does have compression grain from the TX7 TS having low bitrate. The compression artifacts should clear up though on the Japanese Movie 20 Bluray for EP001.
