Waddle into Action as Psyduck in Pokémon UNITE

Disrupt the competition with a Ranged Supporter that turns frustration into a mysterious eruption. Keep calm (or not) and waddle on with Psyduck in Pokémon UNITE. This Water-type Pokémon was originally discovered in the Kanto region and is known to be constantly racked by a headache. When this headache grows intense, Psyduck begins to use a mysterious power. You’ll see the same in Pokémon UNITE, where Psyduck (a Ranged Supporter) has its moves empowered when its headache gauge is full!

You can obtain the Unite license for the Ranged Supporter Psyduck for 12,000 Aeos coins or 790 Aeos gems at the Unite Battle Committee shop. Psyduck will only be obtainable with Aeos gems for the first seven days of its release. Read on to learn more about this delightful Duck Pokémon before waddling into the fray on Aeos Island.

Psyduck Basics

Ability: Swift Swim - When Psyduck is damaged by a Pokémon from the opposing team, its movement speed is increased for a short time. This effect goes on cooldown after it’s triggered. When Psyduck or nearby ally Pokémon take damage, the headache gauge increases. When the headache gauge is full, a mysterious power is triggered, shoving nearby opposing Pokémon. While the mysterious power is active, moves are boosted, and their cooldowns are reduced.

Basic Attack - Attacks with a shot of water.

Lv. 1 & 3 Moves

Confusion - Psyduck releases weak telekinetic force toward opposing Pokémon, dealing damage and leaving them unable to act. While the mysterious power is active, damage dealt to opposing Pokémon is increased.

Tail Whip - Psyduck wags its tail, dealing damage, applying a slowing effect, and decreasing the Sp. Def of the designated opposing Pokémon. While the mysterious power is active, the opposing Pokémon’s Sp. Def is decreased by a greater amount.

Lv. 4 Moves

Bubble Beam - Psyduck forcefully ejects a spray of bubbles, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits and attaching three bubbles. When ally Pokémon hit a bubbled opposing Pokémon with a basic attack, a bubble bursts, dealing damage. When all bubbles are burst, the opposing Pokémon is left unable to act. While the mysterious power is active, the damage dealt when the bubbles burst is increased. Bubble Beam can be upgraded to apply a slowing effect when it hits.

Surf - Psyduck creates a wave in the designated direction, dealing damage and applying a slowing effect to opposing Pokémon it hits. If opposing Pokémon hit by Surf already have a slowing effect applied, they are shoved. Psyduck can ride the wave for a short time and use basic attacks and moves while moving. Ally Pokémon who touch the wave have their movement speed increased. If Surf is used again, Psyduck stops in place and creates another wave. While the mysterious power is active, Psyduck will create two waves. Surf can be upgraded to decrease the damage dealt by Pokémon that are hit by it.

Lv. 6 Moves

Psychic - Psyduck releases a strong telekinetic force in the designated area, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits and leaving them unable to act. Psyduck continues to release a telekinetic force at the opposing Pokémon that took damage closest to the center of the area of effect. If Psychic is used again, Psyduck pulls the opposing Pokémon receiving the telekinetic force in the designated direction. While the mysterious power is active, Psyduck leaves the opposing Pokémon unable to act after pulling them. Psychic can be upgraded to decrease the Sp. Def of opposing Pokémon hit by the telekinetic force.

Disable - Psyduck releases electricity that limits the designated opposing Pokémon’s moves while dealing damage and leaving them unable to act. The electricity spreads to nearby Pokémon five times. (The electricity can only spread to the same Pokémon up to two times.) Opposing Pokémon hit by the electricity will have the cooldown of their last used move increased. If an opposing Pokémon has no move on cooldown, the cooldown of the next move it uses will be increased. When an effect to increase a move’s cooldown is applied, a slowing effect is also applied. While the mysterious power is active, the number of times the electricity spreads will increase. Disable can be upgraded to increase the duration that opposing Pokémon are left unable to act.

Psyduck’s Unite Move, Full-Power Psy-ay-ay! Psyduck releases three mysterious psychic waves around itself, dealing damage and decreasing the damage dealt by opposing Pokémon they hit. After Psyduck uses Full-Power Psy-ay-ay!, its headache gauge greatly increases as a consequence of it unleashing its full power.

Metagame Watch

Strong Against: Darkrai - Speedsters often rely on mixing and matching their cooldowns to get the most out of their moves, and Darkrai is no different, with the opponent’s sleep status being key to it dealing more damage. Psyduck’s Disable is the first move in Pokémon UNITE that can raise move cooldowns, and it’s likely to throw a wrench in Darkrai’s plans when it stops Dark Void or Shadow Claw from being continually chained.

Weak Against: Mew - Psyduck has great options for hindering opposing Pokémon: Bubble Beam, Surf, Psychic, and Disable. Each move can stop a Pokémon in melee range from executing its strategy, whether it’s trying to make a quick getaway or immediately dive into the backline. Mew’s Light Screen and Solar Beam combo has wreaked havoc on Aeos Island for years now, and Psyduck will have a hard time subduing the New Species Pokémon with a Surf and Disable combination. Still, if you find the right flank, or if Mew finds itself out of position, be ready to make your move!
