Summary:
Can You Say the Pokémon? BW is the second ending for Pocket Monsters Best Wishes as well as the second ending for Pokémon Smash. The ending was one of the most highly promoted songs for Pocket Monsters as it was also used in commercials, used in skits and had a karaoke contest.
The anime ending features Rocket Gang Nyarth throughout as a DJ. As he listens to the music, the silhouettes of the Pokémon that are being sung are revealed on a stage platform. Some of Satoshi's Pokémon make quick appearances near the midway point of the song.
The song was also used as the ending for Pokémon Smash and it featured kids who submitted their videos in. In Pokémon Smash #33, Takeshi Tsuruno (つるの剛士) joined the crew in the Marketing Department segment. He sang the song live and debuted the Full Version of the song on the show.
After Takeshi Tsuruno sang the song, the Pokémon Smash members were invited to sing the song. Akiyama began singing the song and was doing quite well until he started singing the refrain like the original Ieru ka na instead of Can You Say the Pokémon? BW (ポケモン言えるかな?BW). Hana went next and was able to get quite far into the song until she just couldn't keep up. Robert and the International girls each ended up having a dedicated ending of them singing the song karaoke style.
The song was also used as part of two Pokémon Trading Card game commercials. As the name of the Pokémon was sung, a corresponding card of that Pokémon from the Victini set was shown. The first commercial was sung by Yoko Gushiken (具志堅用高), a Ryukyuan professional boxer. The second commercial was sung by Hairi Katagiri (片桐はいり).
