The Pokémon Sleep report for the 20th Good Sleep Day Event has been announced and the average sleep duration of researchers around the world was 3 min. and 7 sec. longer than average.

Sleep Report: Good Sleep Day #20

How was your sleep research during the three-day Good Sleep Day event? Our sleep tends to be shorter and shallower during the full moon. However, we found that on the night of the full moon during this Good Sleep Day event, the average sleep duration of all you researchers around the world was 3 min. and 7 sec. longer than average.

Sleep Report Details

Average sleep durations during Good Sleep Day compared to average sleep durations on the same days of the previous week.

Mar. 13 (Thu): 7 hrs 18 min (+1 min)
Mar. 14 (Fri): 7 hrs 43 min (+1 min)
Mar. 15 (Sat):7 hrs 56 min (+6 min)
Notes: The difference from the same days of the previous week is calculated separately for each of the three days. Only users who tracked sleep once per day were included in these calculations.

Thank you all for sleeping more than usual to further your sleep research. We plan to hold the Good Sleep Day event again on the following dates so you can sleep just as well during the next full moon. The next Good Sleep Day event will be held from Apr. 12 to Apr. 14, 2025.

This Month’s Sleep Tips

Here’s this month’s sleep tip! We hope all you researchers find this useful for your daily sleep.

Sleep Cycles Are Not Necessarily 90 Minutes
When we fall asleep, we enter non-REM sleep first. Non-REM sleep is made up of three stages of differing depths. When we progress from the shallowest (stage one) to the deepest (stage three), then return back to stage one, this completes a single period of non-REM sleep, after which we enter REM sleep.

Each of these recurring sets of non-REM and REM sleep is referred to as a sleep cycle. The length and number of sleep cycles experienced varies from person to person. They can also vary widely depending on the day or even within a single night. We often hear that a single sleep cycle lasts for 90 minutes, but this is merely an average.

You may have heard advice along the lines of “you should get up after sleeping for an amount of time divisible by 90 minutes” or “you’ll find it easier to wake up when a sleep cycle has just finished”—but that is not necessarily correct.
