What Is a Mass Outbreak?

Mass outbreaks are a phenomenon in which many of the same species of Pokémon appear in one location. During these events, certain Pokémon will become more likely to appear in mass outbreaks!

Information about Mass Outbreak Events

• To participate in mass outbreak events, please download the latest Poké Portal News by selecting Poké Portal from the X menu, then Mystery Gift, then Check Poké Portal News. You do not need a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership to receive the latest Poké Portal News.
• You will also need to download and install the latest update data for your game once The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1: The Teal Mask for Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet has been released.
• While purchasing The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero is not required to participate in this mass outbreak event, there may be future mass outbreak events that occur in locations that cannot be accessed without The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero.

Explore the art of Vincent van Gogh with Pokémon at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam! Discover Pokémon-themed artworks, take part in an art hunt, and shop exclusive merchandise from Pokémon Center and at the museum from September 28th, 2023 through January 7th, 2024! High resolution images from the press release have been added to an Imageboard thread.

The Pokémon Company International Partners With The Van Gogh Museum For Special ‘Pokémon x Van Gogh’ Art Collaboration

image

AMSTERDAM – Sept. 27, 2023 – See Pikachu, Eevee, Snorlax and many other Pokémon in a whole new way starting Sept. 28 until Jan. 7, 2024 at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Experience a variety of Pokémon themed activities across the museum and online aimed at introducing and teaching young budding artists about the works of Vincent van Gogh.

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Van Gogh Museum, Pokémon and the Van Gogh Museum have launched an official collaboration aimed at introducing new audiences to the work of Vincent van Gogh. Both Vincent van Gogh’s work and Pokémon have a special connection with Japanese art and culture. Japanese prints had a profound impact on Vincent’s art and on his world view. Speaking to his brother Theo in a letter in September 1888, Vincent said ‘And we wouldn’t be able to study Japanese art, it seems to me, without becoming much happier and more cheerful, and it makes us return to nature, despite our education and our work in a world of convention.’

Emilie Gordenker, General Director of the Van Gogh Museum commented: ‘This collaboration will allow the next generation to get to know Vincent van Gogh’s art and life story in a refreshing way. The Van Gogh Museum and The Pokémon Company International have drawn on many years of educational expertise to create a special experience for children, their supervisors, and we hope many others at the Van Gogh Museum.’

image

The Pokémon and Van Gogh Museum collaboration will feature the following activations running from Sept. 28 until Jan. 7, 2024. To participate in the activities, a regular museum admission ticket is required which can only be purchased online.

‘Pokémon at the Van Gogh Museum’ presentation (permanent collection, floor 1)

Several of Vincent van Gogh’s most famous works from the permanent collection of the Van Gogh Museum served as inspiration for six paintings made by artists from The Pokémon Company. Examples include, Pikachu shown in a work that is inspired by Self-portrait with Grey Felt Hat (1887), the Pokémon Sunflora is hidden in a variant of Van Gogh’s famous Sunflowers (1889), and you can find Snorlax and Munchlax relaxing in a work inspired by The Bedroom (1888). You can admire these six specially created paintings on the first floor of the Rietveld building (Rietveldgebouw)

A Pokémon Adventure activity (6 years+, activity leaflets are handed out at the Atrium)

A Pokémon Adventure leaflet will lead visitors along the works by Vincent van Gogh that served as inspiration for the paintings in the six-piece special presentation, Pokémon at the Van Gogh Museum. During the activity, visitors will discover the museum and the stories behind the paintings. Once participants complete the Pokémon Adventure activity, they can hand in their completed leaflet for a special Pikachu x Van Gogh Museum promo card (subject to availability). The Pokémon Adventure leaflet is available in both Dutch and English.

Pokémon x Van Gogh online learning material – Van Gogh at School (Upper primary lower secondary education level)

Vincent greatly admired everything related to Japan, and Japanese prints taught him to look at the world differently. The use of flat planes of strong colors, everyday subjects and attention for detail in nature spoke to him. Using the Pokémon x Van Gogh collaboration as a starting point, pupils will learn about the connection between Van Gogh and Japan, and about how inspiration can work in two directions. The teaching materials are available in both Dutch and English.

‘How to draw Pikachu’ video guide (Restaurant Rietveldgebouw 0)

A guided video activity will be available within the museum which teaches visitors how to draw the fan favorite Pokémon Pikachu and encourages them to try it for themselves.

‘Pokémon Center x Van Gogh Museum’ merchandise

The Pokémon Center online store will feature an exclusive range of ‘Pokémon x Van Gogh Museum’ merchandise featuring the art from the collaboration. Items available include a special Vincent Van Gogh inspired Pikachu Plush, Trading Card Game sleeves, Van Gogh inspired figures of Pikachu and Eevee, Poster Prints, a Jigsaw Puzzle and more. A special promotional ‘Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat’ trading card inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘Self Portrait with Grey Felt Hat’ will be available as a gift with purchase item with all Pokémon Center x Van Gogh Museum products. Products and promotional trading cards are available whilst stocks last. For the full ranges available please visit www.pokemoncenter.com in the U.S. and www.pokemoncenter.ca in Canada.

The Van Gogh Museum Shop will also feature an exclusive range of Pokémon x Van Gogh Museum merchandise featuring art from the collaboration.

Director of Licensing at The Pokémon Company International, Mathieu Galante commented ‘We are always looking for fantastic partners that we can create unique and joyful experiences with for Pokémon fans, and we have genuinely found that in working with the Van Gogh Museum. There is a strong link between the inspiration behind Pokémon and the inspiration behind some of Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous work. With this collaboration we really hope that we can see children discovering and immersing themselves into the world of art through the incredible works of Van Gogh and Pokémon.’

The Get the New Gear! The event will begin on September 28th, 2023 at 11:00 p.m. PDT in Pokémon Masters EX! This event’s battles will be updated daily. You can complete them to get skill gear, a new kind of gear!

The Normal and Fairy-Type Egg Event is now live! In this event, you can get Eggs that hatch Normal- or Fairy-type Pokémon! Shiny Pokémon have a chance of hatching, too!

Skill Gear Details

image

Skill Gear is a new kind of gear that is different from gear up to now.

Note: In conjunction with this, all pre-existing gear will be referred to as Type Gear.

image

At first, Skill Gear has no effects by itself, but by unlocking skills, you can randomly add stats, Themes, and additional effects to the gear.

The Themes for Skill Gear correspond with a Sync Pair’s Theme Skills, so the gear’s stats and additional effects will only be activated when one of the gear’s Theme matches a Sync Pair’s Theme Skill.

Note: Effects will not stack for a single piece of Skill Gear even if multiple Themes and Theme Skills match.
You can unlock skills via Skill Gear under Gear in the Sync Pair menu. Skill Gear cannot be upgraded or have its level cap unlocked as with Type Gear. You can get Skill Gear from the Monthly tab in the Exchange Items menu and also from various events.

Note: To exchange items, go to the Exchange Items menu in the Shop screen, then look for the Monthly tab.

Unlocking Skills

Unlocking skills requires an item called a Skill Feather.

image

The stats, Themes, and additional effects added to gear are determined randomly based on the kind of Skill Feather.

If you use a Skill Feather on Skill Gear that you have already unlocked skills for, you will be given a choice to either keep or overwrite the existing effects with new ones. The Skill Feather will be consumed even if you choose to keep the effects.

You can see the details of the Themes and additional effects that can be added by going to What This Unlocks in the Skill Feather item details screen.

Note: In What This Unlocks, only the effects that you have previously encountered by using a Skill Feather will be shown in the list.

There are also special Skill Feathers guaranteed to add certain effects to gear.

image

New Training Area

A Skill Feather Area will be added to the Training Area. Try getting a Skill Feather to unlock the skills of Skill Gear. You can also get Skill Feathers from various events.

image

Protecting Skills

You are able to protect the Themes and additional effects you have unlocked for Skill Gear. Protected Themes and additional effects will not be overwritten when unlocking skills. Protecting skills requires an item called an Ever Pin. By using an Ever Pin, you can protect one Theme or additional effect that has been added to your Skill Gear.

Up to one Theme and one additional effect can be protected for each piece of Skill Gear that you own. You can protect skills in the Skill Gear details screen. You can get Ever Pins from the Monthly tab in the Exchange Items menu and also from various events.

Note: To exchange items, go to the Exchange Items menu in the Shop screen, then look for the Monthly tab.

image

Important

  • In order to use Skill Gear, you must have completed the Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1 for any region.
  • You can still acquire Skill Gear, Skill Feathers, and Ever Pins even if you have not completed the Champion Stadium Hard Lv. 1 for a region yet.

image

Note: If an Egg is still in the limited-time incubator when the event ends, the limited-time incubator will remain active until that Egg hatches.

Lineup Bonuses

You have an increased chance of receiving Eggs if you take on event battles using teams that feature specific sync pairs. The more of these sync pairs you place in your lineup, the higher your Egg reward rate will be!

Note: The Egg reward rate is limited to a maximum of 100%.

Applicable Sync Pairs

  • Main Character Sync Pairs
    Egg reward rate: ×1.4!
  • Normal-type and Fairy-type Main Character sync pairs
    Egg reward rate: ×1.8!
  • Normal-type and Fairy-type sync pairs
    Egg reward rate: ×1.2!
The lineup bonus is ×1 by default and varies according to which Sync Pairs are on the team.
Example: If you place a ×1.8, a ×1.2, and a ×1.2 sync pair on your team, your chances of receiving an Egg will be increased by ×2.2.

Event Missions

You can take on special missions during the event period. Check the Missions screen to learn more!

  • To participate, you must have completed Main Story Chapter 1: The More the Merrier (Normal) in single-player.

  • All mission completion rewards must be claimed within three days of the mission period ending.
