To help promote the release of Pokémon + Nobunaga's Ambition (ポケモン+ノブナガの野望) which was released in Japan on March 17th, 2012, Nobunaga's Dark Rayquaza (ノブナガの黒いレックウザ) was distributed on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to players of the Japanese versions of Pokémon Black and White (ポケットモンスター ブラック・ホワイト). This Rayquaza was also distributed at all the Japanese Pokémon Centers and at Pokémon BW Searcher (ポケモンサーチャーBW) tour locations.
During the events distribution time period, a Pokémon Center flyer was being distributed to advertise the event. A reminder of the events distribution was also shown at the end of Pokémon Center commercials on television.
From March 31st, 2012 until April 13th, 2012, 'DS 7-Spots' (7SPOTでDS) at participating locations allowed Nintendo DS owners to download the temporary software and view a variety of content. Nobunaga's Dark Rayquaza could also be downloaded at these stations.
