The official Japanese Pokémon Card Game website posted a message annoucing that starting in August 2026, certain Pokémon Card Game products will require the use of a Japanese My Number Card as part of the process of purchasing the product and certain events will require the My Number Card for event registration. The My Number Card (Individual Number Card) is Japan’s official ID. The hope is that being required to use an official ID for purchases will reduce scalping.

Scope

This initiative applies to the following products related to the Pokémon Card Game.

• Products: Priority access to lotteries and sales for select products on the official Pokémon merchandise online store, Pokémon Center Online.

Authentication Method

• Procedure: We plan to use an external service to read the IC chip on the My Number Card via a smartphone to authenticate Players Club accounts.
• Privacy: During authentication, we will verify your identity using the User Authentication Electronic Certificate and Card Information Input Assistance features embedded in the card. Using these methods, we will not collect or store your My Number (Individual Number).

Start Date

We are currently exploring the use of this system for lotteries related to online sales of certain products and for events, with a target launch date of around August 2026.

We will provide further updates regarding the specific implementation date, products and events, authentication methods, and age-based operational rules as soon as the details are finalized.

Obtaining a My Number Card

The process from application to issuance typically takes approximately 1 to 2 months. If you are considering using the aforementioned services in the future and do not currently possess a My Number Card, we recommend that you apply for one as soon as possible.
