I am doing research for a CardDex and inventory tracker. I am having difficulty finding accurate information about the VS cards. The only two sources that I normally use, Bulbapedia and Serebii, have incomplete or inaccurate information. I know it has been a long time since these cards were published, but if anyone remembers how the cards were packaged, please contact me.

The information that I have so far is that the cards came in packs of 30. There were 3 half-decks with randomized cards(?) but only one type of pokémon (the example given states the Fire-Water half deck only had Fire pokémon cards), but the other packs had random cards. There is no real information about whether these packs consisted of completely random cards or if they contained a certain percentage of pokémon, trainer and energy cards. The only half-deck that had fixed cards was the promotional Tyranitar Half Deck.

Any accurate information (or even a link) will be greatly appreciated.

You'll be hard pressed to find any information about them these days. Perhaps checking around archive.org around the time they were released and see if the official pokemon website and WOTC(?), i think at that time, have any information on it.

That is a plausible idea, but not for WotC. The VS cards were never released internationally except for the Tyranitar half deck distributed through the tournaments. Only Media Factory published the cards.

Come to think of it, maybe Pojo has old files or has been archived.

In short, the set consisted of 103 Pokemon cards and 39 trainer cards. These could be purchased in half-decks containing 30 cards - 12 pre-selected energy cards, as well as 12 Pokemon and 6 trainers chosen at random from a list specific to that deck. There were 3 such types of half-decks, focusing on Water/Fire, Grass/Electric and Fighting/Psychic.

Additionally, there was a standard half-deck based on the 4th movie, which included 30 completely pre-determined cards, one of which was a secret card ("The Rocket Gang's Bangiras") that couldn't be obtained in any of the 3 randomized half-deck packs.

So there were only the three half decks? If so, there would be no way only one type of pokémon would be found (Bulbapedia example: only fire pokémon in the Fire-Water deck) in each deck. Maybe they meant you would find either fire or water in the pack marked Fire-Water as an example?

The secret Team Rocket card was released in the special tournament version of the half deck. This deck was released by Media Factory in several languages including English. The English deck was the only one with an error card (not the secret card, but a different one).

There are three types of half decks, yes. The Fire/Water decks contain Colorless, Fire, Water and Dark Pokemon, the Electric/Grass decks contain Colorless, Electric, Grass and Metal Pokemon, and the Psychic/Fighting decks contain Colorless, Psychic and Fighting Pokemon, as well as four special Team Rocket cards (Raikou, Entei, Suicune and Wobbuffet).

That solves the inconsistencies in the Bulbapedia article.
