Description:

Pokémon Snap​ (ポケモンスナップ) was first released on the Nintendo 64 but was later released on the Nintendo Wii as a Virtual Console download with a few enhancements. The game was originally released in Japan on April 30, 1999 for 6,800 Yen. The Virtual Console version of the game is available via the Shop Channel for 1,000 Wii Points.

Story/Information:

Pokémon Snap​ follows the adventures of Todd, a budding new Pokémon photographer who has been asked by Professor Oak to take pictures of Pokémon. Players take control of Todd as they travel through 7 completely 3D rendered level filled with Pokémon. Each picture the player takes can be selected for judgment by Professor Oak and the player is awarded points based on the quality of the picture.

Available Pokémon in the Game:

Pokémon Snap does not feature all the Pokémon and it only includes Pokémon from the first generation. Below is a list of the Pokémon that are available in the game.

Blockbuster Pokémon Snap Stations:

In 1999, Blockbuster teamed up with Nintendo of America Inc. to create a Pokémon Snap promotion exclusively in its participating stores from August 1999 through November 23, 1999 in the United States and Canada.

During the promotion, players could visit their local participating Blockbuster store to print stickers of their favorite Pokémon characters featured in Pokémon Snap. Players could purchase a collectible Pokémon Snap smart card for $3 at their local Blockbuster to activate a specially designed Pokemon Snap and then insert their Pokémon Snap cartridge into the machine to activate the gallery. Players could then select the pictures from their cartridge that they wished to print and the machine would print them out on a piece of sticker paper.

Virtual Console Differences:

When the Virtual Console version of Pokémon Snap​ was released for the Nintendo Wii, it was not a straight port and it included a few new features exclusively available for that version. Photos taken from in the game can be posted to the Wii Message Board and then can then be sent to a friends Wii's.

Pokémon Snap - Nintendo 64 - Nintendo Switch Online Service + Expansion Pack

Pokémon Snap was available on the Nintendo Switch Online Service + Expansion Pack on June 24th, 2022. The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is a paid membership service that allows members to play a library of Nintendo 64 games.

The Pokémon Snap™game, originally released for the Nintendo 64 system, will be available on 6/24 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.
