Note

The official English Pokémon website lists this episode as Pokémon DP Sinnoh League Victors - Season 13: Episode #11 which takes place between Teaching the Student Teacher! and Keeping in Top Forme!.

The original English dub airing order had Pokémon Ranger: Heatran Rescue! as the 20th episode of the season, not the 11th episode, airing between A Grand Fight for Winning! and For the Love of Meowth!. This revised numbering scheme is also different from the original Japanese airing schedule as it places it ahead of Keeping in Top Forme!. The Shaymin episode aired during the first half hour while the Heatran episode aired in the second half hour of the 1-hour special that aired in Japan on March 18th, 2010.

Amazon Prime Video in Japan also changes the Japanese numbering scheme of this episode and lists it as DP168, not DP169 and places it between Teaching the Student Teacher! and Keeping in Top Forme!, like the revised English dub numbering, further confusing the placement of this episode. Amazon also puts the episode picture for the Heatran episode as DP173 farther down the page.

As a result, we have kept the numbering schemes for both SLV and DP in their originally aired order.

Takeshi in the Japanese version tells Satoshi to get some firewood (薪) where as Brock in the English dub tells Ash to bring some kindling. As the picture shows, Ash collects some large logs. Kindling is generally thinly shaved wood or small twigs.

Brock: Hey, Ash, would you bring over some kindling, please?
Takeshi: Satoshi, bring the firewood over here.

The dub is out of chronological order compared to the Japanese original. When the English dub of this episode aired, the Sinnoh Grand Festival had already ended. The Japanese version specifically states that Satoshi and friends are on their way to the Grand Festival at Lake Risshi.

English Dub Narrator: As our heroes continue their Sinnoh region journey, a quiet moment provides time for a riverside lunch!

Japanese Narrator: On their way to Lake Risshi where the Grand Festival is going to be held, Satoshi and his friends...

Natsuya in the Japanese version knew before seeing Heatran use Eruption in the volcano that it could use the move. On the other hand, Ben in the English dub was surprised when he saw Heatran use Eruption.

Ben: That special Heatran can use Eruption. Wow!
Natsuya: That must be the rare Heatran that can use Eruption.

In the English dub, Ben specifically states that he was going to take the Heatran to 'the' National Park. In the games, the National Park (しぜんこうえん) is a located in the Johto region. That National Park features tall grass and bug Pokémon and it makes no sense to take a Heatran that knows Eruption to it. By stating that he is going to take it to 'the' National Park, the English dub removes the whole concept that there could be other National Parks in the Pokémon World. It should have just said "a National Park". As of the 5th generation of games, only 1 'National Park' has been revealed, so when people reference it, its assumed they mean the location in the Johto region.

The Japanese original also used Nature park (自然公園), but it added "Pokémon" in front so it was assumed they meant something different than the Johto Nature Park.

Ben: All right, it's time to take you to the National Park.
Natsuya: All right. We want to shelter you at a Pokémon nature park.

Nyarth replies to Musashi request to stop Heatran with a couple of one liners in the Japanese version. Meowth in the English dub assumes Jessie isn't relaxed with the situation for some reason and states he's going to whack it.

Character English Translation Japanese
Jessie Meowth, we need one Heatran tagged in its tracks. You have to block Heatran's path, Nyarth!
Meowth Just relax! Yes!
Meowth I'll give it some whacks! Click!

Hikari in the Japanese original recognizes the fact that Natsuya was unconscious but Dawn in the English version just said they should help him.

Dawn: Something's wrong-- we'd better help him.
Hikari: This is bad; it looks like he's unconscious!
04:21

Script Error

Dawn in the English dub assumes the complete opposite compared to Hikari in the Japanese version when talking to the Pokémon Ranger.
Dawn: So does that mean Feraligatr's your partner?
Hikari: So that Ordile isn't your partner?

Paint Edit

Natsuya said nothing about complaining in the original Japanese version.

Ben: You can either try and get things done or sit around complaining, but not both.
Natsuya: That's how I learned to think of creative solutions, no matter what difficulties I had to face.

How many times can you use 'capture' in a sentence?! Jessie also questions if the Capture Styler will work in the English dub.

Jessie: We can conveniently use that captured Capture Styler to capture Heatran and Pikachu, true?
Musashi: Let's use the Styler and catch Heatran and Pikachu!

Meowth's response to getting his paws burned in the English version is that he burns people's feet. Although there are multiple ways to interpret his response, one of which is that he's would take out his phallus and hit random people's feet resulting in a "hot foot". You decide what Meowth meant!

Meowth: It's more fun giving a hot foot than getting one!
Nyarth: My kitten paws, my kitten paws!

Ben in the English version believes that its a Diglett entering the volcano but Jessie corrects him by stating its a Robo-Diglett. In the Japanese original, he doesn't really know what it is that enters the volcano but he does recognize that its the same people he saw earlier which is something Ben didn't realize.

Character English Translation Japanese
Ben A Diglett? What's that? な…
Ben What is going on here? Those are the guys from earlier... Who are you?!
Jessie It's a Robo-Diglett, thank you very much. We hear a voice asking, "Who are you?!"
James Guess the optimist's out of touch. And show up with the speed of light!

Meowth says nothing specific about the net missles in the English dub but does imply that they are going to try to 'tangle' Heatran up.

Character English Translation Japanese
Meowth When it comes to spinning a mean web, we're the bomb! Well then, let's launch the net missiles!
Meowth Try and stay calm. Click!

When magma reaches the surface and comes out of a volcano, magma becomes lava. Since Ash and friends are still in the volcano, it is still magma and the English dub refers to it as lava throughout the episode. The Japanese version does not make this error and correctly calls it magma (マグマ) throughout the episode.

Ben: Use Ice Beam on the lava!
Natsuya: Use Ice Beam on the magma!

The dub adds an extra line for Team Rocket in the English version after each members says 'Buh-bye!'.

The narrator once again removes any reference to the Sinnoh Grand Festival location.

English Dub Narrator: Our heroes can once again explore the wonder and adventures the Sinnoh region has to offer...

Japanese Narrator: Satoshi continues his journey towards Lake Risshi, his next destination.
