Metagross analyzes the situation when it comes to Pokémon UNITE on December 26th, 2023.

Metagross Is Now Available in Pokémon UNITE

Steel yourself for long, drawn-out team fights with this durable Melee All-Rounder. Metagross is Meteor Mashing its way into Pokémon UNITE! This Steel- and Psychic-type Pokémon is the final Evolution of Beldum, a Pokémon first encountered in the Hoenn region. Now, this classic Pokémon is staking its claim on Aeos Island as a bulky Melee All-Rounder. Starting each match as Beldum, this powerful Pokémon evolves into Metang at Lv. 4 and Metagross at Lv. 6. You can obtain Metagross for 14,000 Aeos coins or 575 Aeos gems at the Unite Battle Committee shop. Metagross will only be obtainable with Aeos gems for the first seven days of its release.

Metagross Basics

Ability: Clear Body - Reduces the duration of hindrance effects on this Pokémon when Pokémon from the opposing team are nearby. The more Pokémon from the opposing team there are, the more the duration of hindrance effects is reduced.

Basic Attack - The Pokémon’s basic attacks become boosted attacks with every third attack, striking with an increased area of attack. When this Pokémon hits an opposing Pokémon with a boosted attack, the cooldown of Iron Defense, Meteor Mash, or Gyro Ball is reduced. When this Pokémon hits two or more opposing Pokémon with this boosted attack, the moves’ cooldowns will be reduced even more.

Lv. 1 & 3 Moves

Iron Defense - Beldum is granted a shield, and its next basic attack becomes a boosted attack. Tackle - Beldum scans to see if there is an opposing Pokémon in front of it. If there is, Beldum charges toward that opposing Pokémon, dealing damage to it.

Lv. 5 Moves

Meteor Mash - Metagross charges power in its fist, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in an area of effect while granting itself a shield. The more opposing Pokémon this move hits, the more the shield effect is strengthened and the more damage Metagross deals with its next basic attack. This next basic attack hits with a hard punch fired like a meteor, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect. Meteor Mash can be upgraded to restore Metagross’s HP when the punch hits an opposing Pokémon.

Gyro Ball - Metagross spins rapidly, dealing damage to nearby opposing Pokémon. When the outer edge of the spin hits an opposing Pokémon, Metagross is granted a shield. If Gyro Ball hits multiple wild or opposing Pokémon, the shield effect becomes stronger. Gyro Ball can be upgraded so that if the shield effect remains for a set amount of time, Metagross recovers the same amount of HP as the remaining shield effect.

Lv. 7 Moves

Zen Headbutt - Metagross fires a psychic wave in a forward direction. If this move hits an opposing Pokémon, Metagross then charges toward the Pokémon hit, dealing damage and throwing them. Zen Headbutt can be upgraded to reduce damage taken from opposing Pokémon for a short time after Metagross deals damage.
Magnet Rise - Metagross levitates for a set amount of time using electrically-generated magnetism, increasing its movement speed. If Metagross performs a basic attack while levitating, it falls on the ground forcefully, dealing damage to nearby opposing Pokémon and throwing them. Magnet Rise can be upgraded so that Metagross receives reduced damage from opposing Pokémon while levitating.

Metagross’s Unite Move, Compute and Crush

Metagross quickly analyzes the position of nearby opposing Pokémon, granting it a shield effect based on the number of opposing Pokémon analyzed. When two or fewer opposing Pokémon are analyzed, Metagross lunges toward the opposing Pokémon with the lowest HP, dealing damage to it. If an opposing Pokémon is knocked out by this move, Metagross recovers a portion of its Unite Move gauge. When three or more opposing Pokémon are analyzed, Metagross lunges toward the opponent with the lowest HP, dealing damage to nearby opposing Pokémon and creating a wall around itself.

Metagame Watch

Strong Against: Meowscarada - Metagross is an All-Rounder, but most of its moves are reminiscent of Defender-like disruption. Zen Headbutt and Gyro Ball are both perfect for locking down Speedsters like Meowscarada when they dive into the backline. Metagross’s Meteor Mash and Gyro Ball are also great for keeping it healthy and safe from quick KOs—another problem for Speedsters like Meowscarada that rely on burst damage. It may be difficult for Metagross to initiate encounters against high-mobility Pokémon, but it’s the perfect Pokémon for stopping them in their tracks.

Weak Against: Mew - Metagross’s mobility is reasonably limited outside of Zen Headbutt and its Unite Move, Compute and Crush. This makes most Ranged Attackers a real headache in team fights, but perhaps none more than Mew. Mew can not only deal long-range damage with Solar Beam, Electro Ball, and its boosted basic attack—it also has Surf, Agility, and Coaching to help get it out of trouble. Metagross likely needs to coordinate hindrances with another teammate to lock down Mew, but even that can be difficult.

Episode 4 of Pokémon: Paldean Winds Now Available

Go on a Pokémon-filled adventure through the Paldea region. The final episode of Pokémon: Paldean Winds, a four-episode original animated web series, is available now on the official Pokémon YouTube channel. The series is produced by WIT STUDIO, the animation studio behind the award-winning Pokémon: Hisuian Snow web series. Pokémon: Paldean Winds is set in the Paldea region and tells the story of three academy students—Ohara, Aliquis, and Hohma—as they pursue their respective dreams with their partner Pokémon at their side.

Director Clavell asks the trio to make a video for the new first-year students and transfer students to showcase what makes the academy so special. The video comes to life through their ideas. It features an arrangement of the school song by the world-famous rapper Ryme and an introduction to the region’s Gym Leaders by Iono, as well as the wonders of Paldea seen by the three students during their Treasure Hunts—everyday moments at the academy, beautiful landscapes, and the people and Pokémon living in the region. The result is a treasure of a video with a scope that extends beyond the academy walls and across the whole of Paldea. And the time for its big unveiling has finally arrived.

Be sure to watch the first three episodes—“Breathe Out,” “Breathe In,” and “Take a Breath”—before taking in the riveting finale.

The Pokémon: Paldean Winds series is inspired by the Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games. To celebrate all things Paldea, be sure to watch the episode to discover a password that you can use to receive a special Gimmighoul in your Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet game!

Meowscarada and Holiday Events Are Now Available in Pokémon UNITE

Deceive opponents with tricks and traps before dazzling them with a Floral Flourish—and enjoy some fun holiday goodies.

It’s no illusion—Meowscarada has joined the fray in Pokémon UNITE! This Grass- and Dark-type Pokémon is the final Evolution of Sprigatito, one of three first partner Pokémon originally discovered in the Paldea region. Now, this Melee Speedster has revealed itself on Aeos Island. Starting each match as Sprigatito, this Pokémon evolves into Floragato at Lv. 4, and then into Meowscarada at Lv. 6.

From December 7, 2023, to January 10, 2024, you’ll be able to obtain Meowscarada in the Meowscarada’s Flower Petal Challenge event. By completing missions to collect 100 petals in each of four colors, you can receive Meowscarada’s Unite license. Once the event ends, you’ll be able to get the license in exchange for 1,200 Aeos gems.

Read on to learn more about the magic Meowscarada brings to Unite Battles.

Meowscarada Basics

Ability: Overgrow - When this Pokémon takes damage that reduces it to half its max HP or less, it temporarily disappears into leaves. For a short time after that, the Pokémon’s movement speed and damage dealt increase, and each time the Pokémon deals damage to opposing Pokémon, it recovers HP. This Ability goes on cooldown after it’s triggered.

Basic Attack - Whenever a set amount of time passes, this Pokémon’s next basic attack becomes a boosted attack. Boosted attacks have the user leap at opposing Pokémon and deal additional damage.

Lv. 1 & 3 Moves

Leafage - Sprigatito shoots out leaves that deal damage to opposing Pokémon they hit and decrease their movement speed.

Hone Claws - Sprigatito sharpens its claws while moving, increasing the speed and damage of its next three basic attacks.

Lv. 6 Moves

Flower Trick - Meowscarada attaches a flower bomb to an opposing Pokémon. The flower bomb can be detonated at will if the move is used again, and when it explodes, it deals damage based on the percentage of HP the opposing Pokémon has lost. If Meowscarada deals damage to an opposing Pokémon that has a flower bomb attached to it, the explosion’s area of effect is increased, and it deals increased damage. If Meowscarada knocks out an opposing Pokémon with this move, the move’s cooldown is reset. Flower Trick can be upgraded to increase the explosion’s area of effect and increase the user’s movement speed after this move is used.

Night Slash - Meowscarada throws slashing waves with its claws, dealing damage and applying a mark to opposing Pokémon the slashing waves hit. Meowscarada’s basic attacks have an increased critical-hit rate on marked opposing Pokémon. When Meowscarada deals damage to marked opposing Pokémon with basic attacks, this move’s cooldown is reduced, and the user recovers HP. Night Slash can be upgraded to increase critical-hit rate and HP recovery.

Lv. 7 Moves

Double Team - Meowscarada creates an illusory copy of itself while dashing to befuddle opposing Pokémon. If this move is used again, Meowscarada swaps places with the illusory copy. When this swap happens, or when the illusory copy’s HP drops to 0, flower petals are scattered around, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon and leaving them unable to act for a short time. Double Team can be upgraded to increase the time that the illusory copy remains before disappearing. The upgrade will also decrease the damage taken by the illusory copy.

Trailblaze - Meowscarada leaps to the designated location, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits and leaving them paralyzed. If Meowscarada hits opposing Pokémon with this move, its basic attack speed and movement speed increase for a short time. When Meowscarada is in tall grass, this move’s range increases. If Meowscarada knocks out an opposing Pokémon or makes an assist, this move’s cooldown is reset. Trailblaze can be upgraded to grant the user a shield when this move is used.

Meowscarada’s Unite Move, Floral Flourish

Meowscarada moves instantly to the designated location, creating a whirlwind of flowers around itself that continually deals damage to opposing Pokémon. While using this move, Meowscarada cannot use other attacks, and the move can be canceled if it is used again.

Holiday Events

Snowball Battle in Shivre City - In addition to Meowscarada’s debut, there’s also a trio of holiday events to enjoy while playing Pokémon UNITE. From December 6, 2023, at 11:00 p.m. PST to December 30, 2023, at 3:59 p.m. PST, you can chill out with Snowball Battle in Shivre City. Delibird will also be on the scene, and if a player knocks out the Delivery Pokémon, it drops a present box. By picking up the box, you’ll get a battle item unique to this event.

Illumination Challenge - You’ll also be able to take part in the Illumination Challenge event from December 6, 2023, at 11:00 p.m. PST to December 30, 2023, at 3:59 p.m. PST. NEW WAYS TO PLAY AND MORE EXCITING DETAILS ANNOUNCED FOR THE HIDDEN TREASURE OF AREA ZERO PART 2: THE INDIGO DISK

The Second Chapter of the DLC for Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet Launches December 14

London, United Kingdom —December 7, 2023—Today, The Pokémon Company International announced more details about The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indigo Disk DLC for the Pokémon Scarlet or Pokémon Violet video games. The Indigo Disk launches exclusively on the Nintendo Switch family of systems on December 14, 2023.

The Synchro Machine

Once players progress far enough in their adventure in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indigo Disk, they’ll be able to use a device called the Synchro Machine to see the world through the eyes of their Pokémon. While synchronized with one of their Pokémon, they’ll be able to move around and battle wild Pokémon—a fresh new way to play the game. It appears that this device is still a prototype. Players will be able to use it once they’ve helped a scientist in the Terarium with her research.

The Power of Flight

The Legendary Pokémon Koraidon or Miraidon will gain the power to fly for the first time when Trainers take on the Elite Trial set by Amarys of the BB League Elite Four. While at first this power is believed to be only temporarily imparted, it can apparently be made permanent, allowing Koraidon and Miraidon to fly at any time—but only once players have made it far enough in their adventure. Trainers will be able to fly wherever they please with their Legendary Pokémon and enjoy the sense of freedom that only an open world can provide.

Legendary Pokémon

After completing the main story of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 2: The Indigo Disk, Trainers can meet a curious character named Snacksworth at Blueberry Academy. By completing Blueberry Quests (BBQs) in the Terarium, Trainers can earn snacks from Snacksworth that will allow them to encounter certain Legendary Pokémon from throughout the series back in the Paldea region! He’ll also share his extensive knowledge about these Pokémon with Trainers—as well as tall tales of his own heroic encounters with them.
