Rei Murayama is a Japanese Composer that works for
GAME FREAK. He studied social psychology at university and during his job hunt, many of his peers were aiming for positions at companies or banks, but he just wasn’t drawn to those fields. He wanted to do something interesting and he longed for a job where he could create things that bring joy to people.
He's always loved the Pokémon series, so when he saw a GAME FREAK job posting, he thought, "This is my chance!" and he applied. He had this image that game companies were places for people with specialized training, but he figured he’d take a chance and submit a proposal anyway. During the interview, he boldly presented his own ideas, saying, "This is how I want to take the Pokémon series forward." He feels like they appreciated his attitude of thinking like a creator, rather than just a fan.
