Ray is a student at the Orange Academy in the Paldea region. He is attending to learn about Terastallizing and take the Terastal course. While doing his gym tests, he got lost in a forest with his friend Luka and she cut off some vines on a tree to fix the strap on her bag. This made Konoyozaru and the other monkey Pokémon mad as the vine was the only way across the river.

He looks very similar to Roy, so when Roy encountered all the monkey Pokémon in the forest, they thought Roy was Ray and they got mad at Roy for cutting the vine to their food.
