Summary
Ash and co. have finally reached Kumquat Island, home of the final gym leader. Misty and Tracey says that their are hot springs, so if Ash acts like a baby, they will still be in a nice place. Ash wants his friends to have confidence in him, but Misty and Tracey don't seem to have confidence in him at all. There are many people on the island. A woman tries to advertise her hotel. Tracey wants to have a vacation. He tells Ash to lighten up. Suddenly, the same woman comes charging down to Ash. She is glad that her "child" is back. She thinks that Ash is her son. Ash pushes her away. He tells her that his name is Ash and that he already has a mother. The woman apologizes to Ash. She tells them that her son looks exactly like Ash, and he even has a Pikachu. Misty thinks that her son, Travis, went away to be a Pokémon Master. The woman agrees.

A mechanical Rhydon comes out of the ocean. The townspeople scream in fear. The Rhydon is being controlled by Team Rocket. James presses a button, and a bunch of gears from the Rhydon begin to operate. Arbok and Lickitung are running on the treadmill. A hammer wakes Weezing up, and it uses Smog. Jessie thought that Weezing was going to use Hyper Beam. James forgot to teach Weezing the attack. All the people begins to panic as the smoke fills up the area. The mechanical Rhydon moves closer to the town. Ash stops them by saying it isn't fair to attack innocent people. Jessie sends a signal to Arbok to use Poison Sting. Arbok fires the attack at Ash, but an Alakazam appears, protecting Ash with a Reflect. The woman thanks Alakazam for the nice work. She shouts to Team Rocket to leave the island or they will regret it. Jessie tells "Grandma" to move out of the way. Misty tells Jessie that she is an old witch. This gets Jessie very mad. Ash tells the woman to let him take care of this. The woman being the gym leader doesn't think that is necessary. Weezing uses another Smog attack. Alakazam uses Psychic causing the Rhydon's mouth to close. Because the Rhydon's mouth is closed, the smoke starts to pour inside. Ash calls out Charizard, and it uses Take Down. Tracey is surprised that Charizard is finally listening to Ash. The smoke starts to interfere with Arbok. Arbok uses Acid which puts a hole in the Rhydon. Charizard uses Flamethrower in the hole. The machine explodes, and Team Rocket blasts off again.

The woman thanks Ash for his work. Ash asks the woman for a gym battle, and she gladly accepts his challenge.

The woman leads them to a hotel. She says that the gym is inside the hotel. Tracey thinks that is a perfect combination. THey walk in with many greetings from the staff. The woman asks a man to prepare a deluxe sweet for the guests. They pass a trainer training her Pokémon. The woman tells Ash that they will do a double battle where two Pokémon battles at the same time. She explains to Ash how a double battle works. Tracey tells Ash that it is similar to tennis. They decide to have the battle tomorrow. Until then, Ash and co. are allowed to have free use of the hotel.

Ash is trying to figure out which Pokémon he will use to battle the woman. He decides to use Pikachu, but Ash can't figure out what his second Pokémon will be. Tracey tells Ash that she will probably use Alakazam. Ash sinks to the bottom of the pool. His skin turns dark red. Pikachu waves a fan over Ash, trying to cool him down. The next day, Ash and Luana have arrived at the gym. Luana sends out Alakazam and Marowak, while Ash sends out Pikachu and Charizard. Pikachu and Charizard aren't too happy to be together. The match begins.

Pikachu runs ahead of Charizard to battle the Pokémon. Charizard doesn't like this, and he sets Pikachu's tail on fire. Charizard uses Tackle, but Alakazam's Psychic attack stops Charizard in its tracks. Ash tells Pikachu to help Charizard by using Thundershock. Pikachu attacks Charizard and weakens it. Luana tells Ash that his Pokémon has to work as a team in order to win a double battle. Marowak weakens Charizard more with a Boomerang. Charizard then gets lifted up again with Alakazam's Psychic attack. Charizard is thrown onto the ground, and another Boomerang from Marowak hits Charizard. Alakazam lifts Charizard up again with Psychic. Ash tells Pikachu to do something, or he will lose the match. Pikachu uses a Thundershock on Alakazam. Marowak comes running in and Body Slams Pikachu. Pikachu lands right in Charizard's wing. Ash is happy that they are working together. Pikachu jumps onto Charizard. Marowak uses another Boomerang, but Charizard dodges it. Pikachu shocks Marowak with a Thunderbolt. Alakazam charges up for a Hyper Beam. Ash waits for the right moment, and he tells Charizard to fly up. The boomerang flies in, and it knocks Alakazam to the ground. The Hyper Beam starts hitting the ground near Marowak. When the smoke clears, Alakazam and Marowak are unable to battle. Ash wins the battle.

Luana walks up to Ash. She gives him a Jade Star Badge. Now that Ash has all four badges, he can compete in the Orange League. In order for Ash to win the trophy, he has to beat the leader of the Orange League. Ash takes out Lapras, and the group is ready to head for the Orange League. Ash and co. says goodbye to Luana. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is sitting on their broken machine in the middle of the ocean.
