Compete in the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Ranked Battles September Season

Earn in-game rewards by leading your strongest Pokémon against players from around the world.

The new season of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Ranked Battles has begun and will run throughout September 2020. Test your Trainer skills in head-to-head battles with players around the world, move up the global leaderboards, and earn helpful in-game rewards.

Only Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield or those with the battle-ready symbol are eligible. Pokémon from previous games in the Pokémon series can receive the battle-ready symbol by speaking with the character next to the door in the center of the Battle Tower. Moves that cannot be used in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield will be forgotten when the battle-ready symbol is applied to your Pokémon. Once forgotten, these moves cannot be remembered.

The Ranked Battles September Season (Season 10) will follow the Series 6 regulations, which means the following top-ranked Pokémon from the July season (Season 8) are not permitted: Venusaur, Gyarados, Porygon2, Tyranitar, Torkoal, Hippowdon, Magnezone, Togekiss, Excadrill, Whimsicott, Incineroar, Mimikyu, Rillaboom, Cinderace, Indeedee, and Dragapult.

To start a Ranked Battle, follow these steps:

  • Open the X menu.
  • Select VS.
  • Select Battle Stadium.
  • Select Ranked Battles.
You can press the Y Button to see an overview of Ranked Battles before you begin your match.

Before battle, you'll be matched up with other players of similar rank to ensure even competition. When the season concludes, the higher the tier you finish in, the greater your in-game rewards. The September Season rewards include the following.

Master Ball Tier
  • Gold Bottle Cap ×3
  • 600 Battle Points
  • Armorite Ore ×30
Ultra Ball Tier

Learn everything you need to know to compete in a new Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield battle series.

Test your Trainer skills in head-to-head battles with players around the world in Ranked Battles Series 6, kicking off Monday, August 31, 2020, at 9:00 p.m. PDT and ending Saturday, October 31, 2020, at 4:59 p.m. PDT. Here's what you need to know in order to have a successful series.

Eligible Pokémon
This battle format will ensure new Pokémon have a chance to shine! In Ranked Battles Series 6, competitors won't be permitted to use Pokémon that reached the top 10 for Single Battles or Double Battles in Pokémon HOME's Pokémon rankings, which track the Pokémon most commonly seen on Battle Teams along with their moves, Abilities, and held items. Venusaur, Gyarados, Porygon2, Tyranitar, Torkoal, Hippowdon, Magnezone, Togekiss, Excadrill, Whimsicott, Incineroar, Mimikyu, Rillaboom, Cinderace, Indeedee, and Dragapult won't be available in Series 6, so Trainers will have to come up with all-new strategies as they battle up the ranks. This is an exciting opportunity to see some less commonly used Pokémon shine in battle.

Otherwise, Galar Pokédex No. 001–397, Isle of Armor Pokédex No. 001–210, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Rowlet, Dartrix, Decidueye, Litten, Torracat, Popplio, Brionne, and Primarina may be used. All eligible Gigantamax Pokémon may be used.

Only Pokémon obtained in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield or those with the battle-ready symbol are eligible.
