Celebrate Pokémon Day with Miraidon in Pokémon UNITE

Bring the Thunder and shock the competition as this Legendary Pokémon from the Paldea region. Miraidon is Electro Drifting its way into Pokémon UNITE this Pokémon Day! This Dragon- and Electric-type Pokémon was first discovered in the Paldea region and accompanied Trainers throughout every step of their Treasure Hunt in Pokémon Violet. Now, the Legendary Pokémon is ready to lay down Electric Terrain and shock the competition on Aeos Island as a powerful Ranged Attacker. You’ll be able to add Miraidon to your roster as part of a special event: Miraidon’s Sandwich Challenge. In this event, Miraidon’s Unite license can be obtained without spending Aeos coins or Aeos gems.

The Miraidon’s Sandwich Challenge event will be held in Pokémon UNITE from Monday, February 26, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. PST to Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 4:59 p.m. PDT. Players can obtain dice by logging in (and through other means) and then roll them to advance squares on a board. As players advance squares, they can complete missions to earn Aeos Sandwiches that can then be exchanged for Miraidon’s Unite license.

To commemorate Pokémon Day and Miraidon’s introduction to Pokémon UNITE, players can use the
gift code POKEDAY24 to obtain a platinum Miraidon Pokémon boost emblem, which has useful effects in battle. This gift code is redeemable until March 31, 2024, at 4:59 PDT. To redeem this gift code, follow these steps:

  • Launch Pokémon UNITE on your mobile device or Nintendo Switch.
  • Select the events icon on the right side of the main menu.
  • Select the Daily Events tab.
  • Scroll down and select Gift Exchange.
  • Select Exchange and then enter the gift code on the page that appears.

Read on to learn more about everything Miraidon has to offer in Pokémon UNITE’s latest update and to pick up some tips before battling with this Legendary Pokémon.

Miraidon Basics

Basic Attack - Deals damage to opposing Pokémon.
Ability: Hadron Engine - When Miraidon hits a Pokémon from the opposing team with a move, it creates Electric Terrain. Miraidon can consume a portion of its collected Aeos energy to expand the area of the Electric Terrain it creates. If Miraidon or its allies are within the Electric Terrain, their attacks deal additional damage and they cannot be put to sleep. Electric Terrain strengthens ally team goals and weakens opposing team goals. Hadron Engine goes on cooldown after it’s triggered.

Lv. 1 & 3 Moves

Thunder Shock - Miraidon sends a jolt of electricity in the designated direction, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits.
Thunder Wave - Miraidon discharges electricity at the designated opposing Pokémon, dealing damage and leaving them paralyzed.

Lv. 5 Moves

Charge Beam - Miraidon charges power before firing an electric beam in the designated direction. If Charge Beam hits opposing Pokémon, Miraidon’s Sp. Atk is increased for a short time, and Miraidon stores electric power. If Miraidon stores electric power twice within a short time, it can use a boosted version of Charge Beam. The boosted version has Miraidon continuously fire an electric beam in the designated direction, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect. A maximum of two uses can be kept in reserve for this move. Charge Beam can be upgraded to decrease the time it takes to store a use of this move.

Electro Drift - Miraidon races forward in the designated direction while spinning, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in its path. Miraidon also stores electric power. If Miraidon stores electric power twice within a short time, it can use a boosted version of Electro Drift. The boosted version has Miraidon do a spinning attack aimed at the designated opposing Pokémon, dealing damage to any opposing Pokémon it hits. Electro Drift deals increased damage if the opposing Pokémon’s remaining HP is low. A maximum of two uses can be kept in reserve for this move. Electro Drift can be upgraded to decrease the time it takes to store a use of this move.

Lv. 7 Moves

Thunder - Miraidon summons a cloud in the skies above that drops wicked thunderbolts. The summoned cloud moves slowly toward the nearest opposing Pokémon, dropping thunderbolts whenever a set amount of time passes. The thunderbolts deal damage and apply a slowing effect to opposing Pokémon they hit. Thunder can be upgraded to strengthen the slowing effect applied to opposing Pokémon when they are hit by lightning.

Parabolic Charge - Miraidon floods the area around it with electricity, dealing damage and applying a slowing effect to opposing Pokémon it hits. If Parabolic Charge hits opposing Pokémon, Miraidon recovers HP and also recovers one stored use of either Charge Beam or Electro Drift. The more opposing Pokémon Parabolic Charge hits, the more HP Miraidon recovers. Parabolic Charge can be upgraded to grant Miraidon a shield when it is used.

Miraidon’s Unite Move, Bright Future Meteor Storm - Miraidon calls down five meteorites in a row, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon they hit. If a meteorite hits an opposing Pokémon, the next meteorite to fall will deal increased damage. The final meteorite deals higher damage in a wider area of effect and throws opponents.

Metagame Watch

Strong Against: Zacian
One of the hallmarks of Miraidon in Pokémon UNITE is its Ability Hadron Engine, which allows it to create Electric Terrain in the heat of battle. This spells trouble for Melee Pokémon when they challenge Miraidon, because fighting at close range often means going into Electric Terrain and taking a ton of damage. Zacian does plenty of damage on its own as a Melee Attacker and can nullify ranged damage to a certain extent with Metal Claw, but taking out Miraidon on Electric Terrain when it has multiple uses of Charge Beam in reserve may be a tall task.

Weak Against: Mew
Miraidon has a great deal of mobility and long-range damage, but Mew may have it beat in both departments. Mew’s Light Screen and Solar Beam exceed Miraidon’s range, making it difficult for Miraidon to do damage without taking some punishment of its own. The mobility afforded by Mew’s Surf and Agility also create situations where Miraidon is unable to get close enough to attack at all. Electro Drift and Parabolic Charge may be Miraidon’s best bets for dealing with Mew.
