Letter to the Community - March 20, 2025
Hello Pokémon TCG Live Community,
We've got a lot to cover, so let's jump right in starting with the new game mode coming to Pokémon TCG Live:
Trainer Trials!
Evolve Your Strategy in Trainer Trials
Trainer Trials is a brand-new game mode available within the Casual matchmaking tab that offers rotating deckbuilding challenges to change up how Trainers play the Pokémon TCG!
Trainer Trials tests Trainers' deckbuilding prowess within a limited time frame, while also allowing some cards that may not normally see much play in Standard a chance to shine. The formats range from setting the maximum number of copies of a single card a deck can play, all the way to supporting the Gym Leader Challenge format with TCG Live's card pool! Have some fun ideas for future Trials?
Trainer Trials will update on Thursdays at 10:00 AM PDT (17:00 UTC), with all Trials other than the one available in Week 9 lasting for two weeks each. As a reminder, Standard Rotation hits TCG Live on Thursday March 27th, so decks made for Trainer Trials on March 26th or 27th may not be legal, as Trials will often use the Standard card pool by default.

Other TCG Live Evolutions
We've also made many recent quality-of-life improvements to Pokémon TCG Live, including:
- Avatar Emote Muting: Trainers can now mute their opponent's Avatar.
- Automatic Prize Selection: When a player has Knocked Out opposing Pokémon that have a combined Prize card value greater than or equal to the number of the player's remaining Prize cards, the remaining Prize cards are auto-selected for them.
- Match Timer Option: You can now disable all timers when challenging a Trainer from the Friend's List to a game of Standard.
- Card Movement: When inspecting a card, you can now drag it around to fully appreciate its shiny effects in all their holofoil glory!
Additionally, with the release of
Scarlet & Violet-Journey Together on March 27th, we'll be introducing:
- More Quests, More Rewards! A third Daily Quest is now available in the Battle Pass.
- Quest rewards have been increased from 45 Trainer Points to 100 Trainer Points!
- Ranked Ladder Theming Updates: The Pokémon visually representing each Tier within Leagues have been updated. Any Snom fans out there?
-
Renamed Ranked Ladder Leagues: While functionality remains the same, the League names have been updated. Trainers will now begin their Journey in Nest League, then advancing through Quick League, Poké League, Great League, Ultra League, and finally, Master League. Once a Trainer is out of Nest League, they will only ever reset back to the beginning of Quick League.
- While the name of the League is changing to more accurately describe Trainers who reach it, Arceus will remain the visual representation for the Master League, and Points will continue to be referred to as Arceus Points.
- As always, many card issues have also been corrected-check out the full details in the Version 1.24.0 Patch Notes. We're continuously working to resolve issues that are affecting large numbers of Trainers, with more fixes coming in future updates.
Overnumbered Crafting Updates
As mentioned previously, starting with
Scarlet & Violet-Journey Together, Overnumbered cards won't be exchangeable for Trade Credits until six months after their release date on TCG Live.
Overnumbered cards are any cards not part of the "Main Set" of an expansion. For recent sets, that means rarities such as illustration rares, ultra rares, special illustration rares, and hyper rares. Another easy way to tell is by looking at a card's collector number. Any card with a top number greater than the lower number means it's just that: Overnumbered.
We're ensuring Trainers can still obtain these sweet looking cards by increasing how many Overnumbered cards and Booster Packs Trainers are earned simply by playing the game. Some of the ways coming with these updates include:
- The additional Daily Quest, as well as increasing the Trainer Points these quests reward from 45 to 100.
- Increased Battle Pass Rewards
- Increased Ranked Ladder Rewards
- Additional Login Gifts (such as one coming with Standard Rotation on March 27th)
- More rewards through Twitch Drops, email newsletters, passcodes, and various other promotions
Get ready for all of this and more, when
Scarlet & Violet-Journey Together officially launches in Pokémon TCG Live on March 27th, 2025.
Journeying Together
Now that the event period is coming to an end, we hope that you enjoyed
Eevee's Prismatic Parade and the rewards distributed as part of it!
We have even more ideas on the horizon, and we will continue monitoring your feedback regarding these upcoming changes to Overnumbered cards and other game elements as well, to ensure the best possible experience for Trainers in Pokémon TCG Live!See you in the Trials, Trainers!
