A special 1 hour Pocket Monsters Diamond and Pearl special aired on Thursday in Japan. Two episodes that take place after Satoshi, Hikari and Takeshi part ways aired: Hikari Sets Off Anew!(ヒカリ・新たなる旅立ち!) and The Greatest Crisis in Nibi Gym's History! (ニビジム・史上最大の危機!!).

Hikari Sets Off Anew!(ヒカリ・新たなる旅立ち!)

Shinko is a beginning trainer that was at Professor Nanakamado lab the day that Hikari went to visit him for the first time after competing in the Sinnoh Grand Festival. While Shinko was contemplating which Pokémon she wanted to pick as her first Pokémon, the Pochama and Hikozaru began fighting and the window in Professor Nanakamado lab broke and the two Pokémon quickly jumped out through it. Will Hikari be able to help Shinko retrieve the two Pokémon?

The Greatest Crisis in Nibi Gym's History! (ニビジム・史上最大の危機!!)

Studying at home to be a Pokémon Doctor, Takeshi is interrupted by his siblings who explain that there is trouble at the gym. A challenger has arrived that is there to challenge the true leader of the Nibi Gym, not his brother Jiro who has been the gym leader in his absence. Why is this mysterious trainer wanting to battle Takeshi and what will the outcome?
