Nintendo and The Pokémon Company announced on September 11th, 2024, that a Pikachu Pokémon Utility Hole Cover, or PokéLid (Pokéfuta ポケふた) has been installed at the new Nintendo Museum in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, which opens on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2024.


The new PokéLid was unveiled on-site by Takato Utsunomiya, COO of The Pokémon Company, and Shuntaro Furukawa, President and CEO of Nintendo Co., Ltd.

PokéLids are manholes with Pokémon designs that The Pokémon Company donates to local governments with the aim of promoting the charms of various parts of Japan through Pokémon. Each manhole has an original design, making it one of a kind. They can be found in various places throughout Japan, such as tourist spots, parks, and public facilities, so some of you may have already seen them.


There are two PokéLids in Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, so the PokéLid at the Nintendo Museum is the third in the city.


The Pokémon that will appear on the PokéLid at the Nintendo Museum is Pikachu. It features a design of Pikachu together with a Game Boy, the hardware that was used for the original Pokémon games, Pocket Monsters Red and Green.

This PokéLid can be found inside the Nintendo Museum. If you visit the Nintendo Museum, be sure to try and find where this PokéLid is. As this PokéLid is located inside the Nintendo Museum, only visitors entering the museum can see it.
