Komala is a recurring Pokémon that is often seen near the Pokémon School on Melemele Island. It will ring the school bell at the appropriate times.

One fine day, Samson Oak was taking a leisurely walk when he came across a Komala who was rolling around the ground in front of some farmers, blocking their way. He noticed that it has lost its log and since it usually holds onto it, it was unable to sleep comfortably and rolled around in its sleep. He tried to give it a Pinap Berry as a substitute but it found that his head was more comfortable, so he let it sleep there until they found out that it liked the school bells log as its replacement.
