It has been announced that special episodes of the Pocket Monsters anime called Pocket Monsters Episode: Mega Evolution (ポケットモンスター エピソード:メガシンカ) will air for three consecutive weeks starting on Friday, October 10th, 2025 and ending on Friday, October 24th, 2025. Titles and airdates for all three specials have been announced, alongside a key visual and a promo video.

The key visual depicts Roy and Uruto standing side by side in front of the Prism Tower of Miare City, both of them wearing Mega Rings. In the background, we see the Yellow Mega Lucario with its fierce gaze fixed upon the duo, as well as Miare City resident Matiere.

image

It's a key visual filled with intriguing details, building excitement towards learning both how Roy and Uruto first met, as well as who the mysterious armored man is.

image

A promo video for Episode Mega Evolution has been released as well. The video shows elements like Roy and Uruto's first meeting and a battle scene featuring them going up against the Yellow Lucario, revealing that Episode Mega Evolution is going to be a story from the past depicting Roy and Uruto's journey towards learning to use Mega Evolution. The battle against the Yellow Lucario, and the appearances by Matiere from the key visual as well as her Nyasper Mokoh, make this video a must see for video game fans as well. You'll now finally be able to see Roy's encounter with both the Yellow Lucario as well as Mega Evolution itself!

"Yuu", the theme song for Episode Mega Evolution, will be sung by Yuzu, who also handled Get Back, the opening theme for the Mega Voltage arc. A short clip from the song was first revealed in the new Episode Mega Evolution trailer.

image

Episode titles:
Friday October 10th: "Roy: Training"
Friday October 17th: "Uruto: Strongest"
Friday October 24th: "Mega Evolution: Bond"

A comment from Yuzu:
Not only are we extremely happy to be allowed to handle the theme song for the Pocket Monsters Episode Mega Evolution anime as well after doing the one for the Mega Voltage arc, we're also happy we get to drum up excitement for this story with another new song.

This song incorporates imagery of Roy and Uruto's first meeting and subsequent bonding, as well as of them growing stronger through battles against the Yellow Lucario. Just like we did with Get Back, we teamed up with TeddyLoid-kun for the musical aspect. This time, we intended to create something new and unique by combining a traditional Japanese flavor centered around the sound of the koto with modern digital sound and our own vocal interplay.

And while the song incorporates elements from the Pokémon anime, it was also themed around its position as a song to be played during our first Asia tour as Yuzu in 6 years this December.

Just like you, we're also really excited to follow the new encounters, fierce battles and gradually revealed truths in the Pokémon anime every week, and we look forward to learning what kind of stories lie in wait from here on as well!

The official Japanese Anime PR X account posted comments from Yuzu on October 9th, 2025.

Episode Mega Evolution:
The Pokémon anime mega specials finally start tomorrow! We've received comments from the two members of Yuzu, who were responsible for the theme song Yuu:

Kitagawa: The TV show Pocket Monsters Episode Mega Evolution finally starts airing tomorrow. Hello everyone,
Both: we're Yuzu.
Kitagawa: We're going to be handling the theme song for the Pocket Monsters Episode Mega Evolution TV show.
Iwasawa: Yeah.

How did you feel when you learned you had been chosen to handle another theme song for the Pocket Monsters TV show right after Mega Voltage?
Kitagawa: It was perfect timing, you know?
Iwasawa: Yeah.
Kitagawa: You see, we had decided to do our first Asia Tour in quite a while this year, and as we were thinking of writing some new songs for it, we get informed about this theme song deal.
Iwasawa: Yes.
Kitagawa: The timing was incredible, and it let us pour our heart into this theme song with that very same passion we were writing songs for the Asia Tour with.

What were you trying to express through the music and lyrics this time?
Kitagawa: Okay, so last time we got to do a theme song for the Pokémon anime we did a song called "GET BACK".
Iwasawa: Yeah.
Kitagawa: And we wrote that song around the idea that "GET BACK" means trying to get back the future. As we created it, we were comparing and contrasting the protagonists. This time around, however, we instead focused on their bonds.

Finally, do you have something you want to tell those who are looking forward to the new opening theme?
Kitagawa: We are once again very happy to have had our song Yuu get chosen as a theme song after GET BACK. We hope it will make the show even more exciting, so please give it a listen. Thank you very much.
Iwasawa: The Pocket Monsters TV show airs every Friday at 6:55pm on the TV Tokyo Network.
Kitagawa: And believe it or not, the Pokémon anime mega specials Episode Mega Evolution that we're handling the theme song for will air three weeks in a row starting Friday October 10th, so please give them a watch. Best regards! This has been...
Both: Yuzu!
