THE KALOS REGION AND MORE NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN POKÉMON FROM POKÉMON X AND POKÉMON Y INTRODUCED

Four Brand-New Pokémon, the New Region, and Official Package Art Revealed for the First Time - BELLEVUE, Wash.—May 14, 2013—When Pokémon fans begin their thrilling 3D adventure in Pokémon X or Pokémon Y this October, they will be transported into an entirely new region called Kalos. A mysterious place that is shaped like a star, Kalos is a region where players will encounter beautiful forests, thriving cities, and many never-before-seen Pokémon. The central city of this breathtaking region is Lumiose City, a metropolis featuring a tower that is set to become an iconic structure in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y.

While exploring the Kalos region, Trainers will encounter many new Pokémon that they can battle, catch, and add to their Pokédex. A Trainer is only as good as the Pokémon he or she befriends. Seven new Pokémon debuting in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y were introduced earlier this year—and today, four additional Pokémon are being revealed for the first time. These Pokémon add to the more than 640 Pokémon that have been encountered in previous games.

The cowardly Pokémon Helioptile, a Normal- and Electric-type Pokémon, can generate enough electricity through sunbathing to power machinery. But wise Trainers won’t be deterred by Helioptile’s lack of bravery. It knows Parabolic Charge, a brand-new move where Helioptile attacks everything around it. Helioptile's HP is restored by half the damage taken by those hit.

Fletchling, a Normal- and Flying-type Pokémon, sings with a beautiful chirp that is sure to delight any Trainer. Although it is known to be very friendly, Fletchling will suddenly unleash relentless attacks once it’s in battle. For example, when it uses its Fire-type move Flame Charge in battle, in addition to doing damage, Fletchling’s Speed increases every time.

With a leaf always in its mouth and an intimidating glare that is rarely effective, Fighting-type Pokémon Pancham shows its playful side when it lets out a little smile when its head is pat. Pancham can learn a brand-new move, Parting Shot, which not only lowers an opponent’s Attack and Special Attack, but also allows Pancham to switch out for another Pokémon in a Trainer’s party during battle.

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y introduce a new method of transportation—riding the brand-new Pokémon, Gogoat. This large Grass-type Pokémon is a reliable way to travel certain parts of Lumiose City. In battle, it can use Horn Leech to recover HP equal to half the damage dealt by this move.

These brand-new Pokémon and others caught in the Kalos region will be added to a player’s Pokédex that, for the first time, will be divided into three unique areas within the region. There is much to explore in the Kalos region, and many Pokémon to encounter when Pokémon X and Pokémon Y debut worldwide this October. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months!

This new Pokémon shares many traits with Mewtwo and it’s suspected that the newly discovered Pokémon has a connection with Mewtwo—a powerful Pokémon that debuted in Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue.

Pokémon Smash 130

To start off the show, a new opening was revealed. The fourth opening to Pokémon Smash features the narrator explaining the upcoming segments on the show in a small video box in the center of the screen. The Eeveelutions are shown at the bottom of the screen swaying back and forth. After he as completes the quick summary of the episode, an animated sequence featuring Lucario and Mijumaru is shown as they lift up the Smash logo into position before going onto the main show.

As requested by Smash in March of 2013, during the month of April 2013 a new segment would debut called You Choose! Pokémon Anime Request! (キミが決める!ポケモンアニメリクエスト). Viewers were requested to select a Pokémon and then an anime Library episode that features that Pokémon would be shown during the Pokémon Library segment of the show. Viewers needed to send in a postcard with a brief message and their Pokémon selection into the show.

This weeks selection was from Hinako Iizuka (飯塚日奈子) who asked for Pochama (ポッチャマ). Pochama Tries its Best!! (ポッチャマがんばる!!) from the Diamond and Pearl series was the selected episode. Professor Red said his go-to line 'OK! PokéRequ Go!' (OK! ポケリク GO!) to start the repeat episode.

After the Library episode, Shoko-tan reviewed all the currently the revealed Generation 6 Pokémon up to this point: Froakie, Chespin, Fennekin, Xerneas, Yveltal and Sylveon. The VTR featured Golgo and Red visiting Junichi Masuda at GameFreak to get an update for Pokémon X and Y. They brought with them a plate of Gomoku Ankake Pancakes (五目あんかけパンケーキ) which Shoko-tan made. Gomoku Ankake Pancake are pancakes with ankake sauce and five types of vegetables/meats. Realizing that it was Shoko-tan that made them, Masuda-san passed it up and asked Red to try it. Red tried it and it was quite obvious that he didn't like it but all he could say was that it was "Intense" (強烈). Just as Masuda was about to reveal the new Pokémon, they went to a commercial break.

They finally got him to reveal a new Pokémon. Back in the studio, Golgo and Red showed the rest of the members the new Pokémon and Shoko-tan nearly had a heart attack as Mewtwo is one of her favorite Pokémon. The new Pokémon is based off of Mewtwo but no other details were revealed.

Further details will be posted as they are revealed.
On January 31st, 2013, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata revealed that the best selling Nintendo games in 2012 were Pokémon Black and White 2 which sold over 7.5 million combined copies worldwide.

Thumbnail Thumbnail Thumbnail
Click on images for higher resolution

Iwata explained the reason that Nintendo 3DS sales were millions below projected targets was because of the lack of hit titles being released outside of Japan. "I have just explained that in the Japanese market the Nintendo 3DS platform is already established as the market leader. On the other hand, however, we could not launch hit titles which could lead the markets towards the end of the year abroad and sales are largely behind our target overseas. This is one of the main reasons for our downward revision to our annual shipment target from 17.50 million units to 15.00 million units."

To compensate for the lack of hit titles, Nintendo has announced 4 major franchise titles: "DRAGON QUEST VII Eden no Senshitachi," "Tomodachi Collection" (temp.), "MONSTER HUNTER 4" and "Pokémon X/Pokémon Y." In addition, a variety of titles will be released by Nintendo and other Japanese software developers. In that sense, I hope few people are concerned about the momentum of the Nintendo 3DS in the Japanese market. To export the momentum to the overseas markets, we plan to actively release our key titles for Nintendo 3DS which could potentially lead the markets this year. "Pokémon X/Pokémon Y," to be launched in October worldwide, could be the most-anticipated one and "Animal Crossing: New Leaf," released in Japan last year, will be available in the first half of this year. We have already announced that "Fire Emblem Awakening," "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity," "Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon," "Brain Age: Concentration Training" and "LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins" will be released in the first half of this year."

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata simultaneously broadcasted worldwide a Nintendo Direct broadcast where he announced Pokémon X and Y (ポケットモンスター X・Y). The games will be released worldwide in October of 2013 for the Nintendo 3DS. The names mark the end of the color naming scheme that have been used on all the main handheld games since the series was first released. This also marks the first time that the games have launched worldwide but it appears that Korea will not be part of the worldwide release as Mr. Iwata did not list it and the on screen caption indicated some countries would not be part of the worldwide release. Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 was just released in Korea on November 8th, 2012. Nintendo 3DS features will be incorporated into the games and the teams are currently still working on the games.

Mr. Iwata noted that a significant number of resources is required to localize the games to each countries language and their challenge has always been how to distribute the Pokémon games around the world at the same time while ensuring that the quality remains high. With the release of Pokémon X and Y, they have been able to overcome this challenge.
