Event Report #12: An Opening Event Report from the "Summer Vacation Pokemon Carnival in Sunshine City", Starting Today!

The "Summer Vacation Pokemon Carnival in Sunshine City", held in Sunshine City, Ikebukuro, Tokyo, starts today!

Both "Save Sunshine City!", a participation puzzle event hosted by SCRAP Entertainment, known for their "Real Dasshutsu Game" events, and the "Pikachu and the Pokémon Musicians Café by Sweets Paradise", which is themed after the movie short, will take place here!

The entire Sunshine City will be drenched in other Pokémon events as well, such as the "Sea Lion Time: Pikachu & Hoopa Appear! Show" held in collaboration with Sunshine Aquarium, and the planetarium movie "Pocket Monsters XY: Sky Fragments" shown at the Manten planetarium!

For further information, see this page!

We will now present a status report from the opening event that took place today!

Prior to the event starting, legendary Pokémon had attacked and invaded the Alpa B1 Fountain Plaza, the sign-up location for "Save Sunshine City!" They were now quietly waiting for challengers to come by to solve their riddles!

The opening event, however, took place at Sunshine Aquarium!
It started off with Hoopa and Pikachu coming in!

Next, the special guests, Shoko Nakagawa, Shinichi Shinohara and Mizuki Yamamoto, all of which also play major roles in the movie as guest voice actors, Appear!

Shokotan and Shinohara greeted the crowd with their usual "Pokéssu!" and "Hippossu!"!

Shinohara plays the major role of Hippopotas!
Shokotan introduces him by mentioning that he's even been making full use of Hippopotasese on Twitter!

I-it's true!

It's then time for the next special guest, the sea lion Totto-chan!

The biggest event taking place at the "Summer Vacation Pokemon Carnival in Sunshine City" is the "Sea Lion Performance Time: Movie Premiere Commemoration Pikachu & Hoopa Appear! Show" at Sunshine Aquarium, which will be held from Monday July 27th and on!
The audience will now be shown a performance in advance of that!

As a special treat, it will also perform tricks per the guest voice actors' signals!

Totto-chan waves its hand at Shokotan's signal

It does a handstand at Mizuki's signal!

And it laughs loudly back at Shinohara's signal!

Totto-chan has shown off some amazing tricks so far, but Shinohara refuses to let it upstage him!
This leads to a ring toss competition between Shinohara the voice of Hippopotas and Totto-chan the sea lion!

A Hippopotas VS a sea lion!
This will truly go down is history as a legendary bout!
Let the fierce battle over the rings begin!!!

Shokotan is the first to throw!

Totto-chan catches it without difficuly!

But where will the ring Shokotan throws to Hippopotas Shinohara land!!!?

What an incredible catch!

Shinohara truly has reason to be proud of his physical capabilities!

Mizuki is the second to throw!

Totto-chan catches this one too! Its stability is incredible!!

And then Shinohara unfortunately misses!

Totto-chan the sea lion now has a lead of one!
If Satoshi was here right now, he'd surely encourage Shinohara by telling him not to give up!
You mustn't give up, Hippopotas!

I will not lose this battle...!!

The third to throw is a boy from the audience named Sora Kato!

Totto-chan once again doesn't miss! It got 3 rings perfectly!

And unfortunately, Shinohara ends up with a result of just one caught ring.

Totto-chan has shown us a truly amazing performance!

There's a lot more fun to be had at the "Sea Lion Performance Time: Movie Premiere Commemoration Pikachu & Hoopa Appear! Show", which will be held starting this Monday!

After the battle, everyone takes a commemorative photo!
Totto-chan Appears! from inside the ring!

Go visit Sunshine City, Ikebukuro, after watching the Pokémon movie!

Event Report #11: Congratulations! The Pokémon Movie Premieres and the Pokémon Center Hiroshima Opens! Pikachu Appear! in Hiroshima!

In order to commemorate the premiere of the Pokémon movie and the opening of the Pokémon Center Hiroshima, Pikachu Appear! in Hiroshima!
We will bring you a status report!

Even Hoopa gets startled at what Appear! in Hiroshima! It's a total of 20 Pikachu!
First off, they head to the Pokémon Center Hiroshima!

The Red Gyarados from the Pokémon Center Hiroshima welcomes them!

The Pikachu shop according to their fancy.
What could they be buying?

They're purchasing the limited Pokémon Center "Pikachu Playing Koiking Plushies" made to commemorate the opening of the Pokémon Center Hiroshima!
And so many! Are they buying souvenirs for someone?

Now that the Pikachu have finished shopping, where are they headed next?

Pikachu, chu're on your way...

When you think of Hiroshima, you can't help but think of this place!

This is the Hiroshima Toyo Carp's home stadium, "MAZDA Zoom-Zoom Stadium Hiroshima"!
The Pikachu are going to join the CC Dance (Carp Cheer Dance) performed at the end of the 5th inning of today's baseball game!

...but it's raining!!

(the game got canceled due to rain this day)

................

The Carp's very own "gloomy weather man" Kenta Maeda was the starting pitcher that day.
The Pikachu's intrusion caused Maeda's Ability "Drizzle" to kick in with devastating results.

Still, the Pikachu had lots of fun interacting with all the Carp fans that had come to the stadium that day.

The next event is not dependent on the weather, however!

Tomorrow, Saturday July 25th, the "Summer Vacation Pokemon Carnival in Sunshine City" will start in Sunshine City, Ikebururo, Tokyo!
The entire Sunshine City will be drenched in Pokémon events, including "Save Sunshine City!", a participation puzzle event hosted by SCRAP Entertainment, known for their "Real Dasshutsu Game" events, and the "Pikachu and the Pokémon Musicians Café by Sweets Paradise", which is themed after the movie short!

Make sure to go!

For further information on that event, see the Summer Vacation Pokémon Carnival in Sunshine City page!

Event Report #10: Summer Means Pokemon! A Report from the Premiere Day's Stage Greetings: Part 2

We're making a report from the premiere stage greetings held at TOHO Cinemas Nichigeki 2 at the movie's premiere date!
We will give a status report on it across two separate reports!

Part 1 can be found here!

Mizuki Yamamoto was finishing her greeting, when suddenly...!
Pikachu started talking to the event's moderator, announcer Aiuchi from TV Tokyo, about something!

Pikapikaa! Pikaachu!!

What about today? Oh! It's Mizuki Yamamoto-san's birthday!

Incredibly, July 18th isn't just the premiere date for the Pokémon movie, it's also Mizuki Yamamoto's 24th birthday!
It's a true miracle that these two anniversaries coincidenally overlap!

Announcer Aiuchi: "Congratulations! I wish you a wonderful 24th birthday!"

I am truly happy to be able to greet this day together with Pokemon! Thank you so much!

She receives a thunderous applause from the audience!!

HEY HEY HEY, WAIT A SECOND!

Is this all!?
Normally you provide a cake or something, don't you? Right? Come ON, guys!

Shinohara says this, pointing out that this is way too simple a celebration for such a momentous day.
Despite that, it's plain impossible to get something ready that quickly...

But then!

Fujiwara: "...We have Hoopa here."

That's it! Hoopa can make anything and everything "Appear!" from its "rings"!
But will it really be able to do something like this?

Pikachu: "Piika? Piikachu, Pika?"

Announcer Aiuchi: "Pikachu just asked Hoopa if it could, but..."

Hoopa: "All right! Hoopa can do anything! Hihihi!"

Appeaaaaar!

......

Happy birthday to you!

Suddenly, a high quality, live birthday song can be heard sung from the stage wing!

Happy birthday, dear Mizuki-saan!

Incredibly, what Hoopa made "Appear!" was all the members of Little Glee Monster, the performers of the theme song for the short "Pikachu and the Pokémon Musicians", as well as a giant, specially made birthday cake!!

Mizuki Yamamoto is completely unable to hide how surprised she is!!

Hihihi! Did Hoopa startle you?, Hoopa says!

In honor of her 24th birthday, this specially made birthday cake is decorated with 24 Pikachu!
Even the other guest voice actors got surprised at that!

I'm so happy right now!
Out of the 70 million people who have watched Pokemon movies so far, I think I'm the happiest of them all! Thank you SO much!
I want to keep loving Pokémon forever!

Announcer Aiuchi: "Since everyone from Little Glee Monster went through the trouble of coming here, we'll now let them sing the short's theme song "Gaogao All Stars""

Serina from Little Glee Monster: "Mizuki Yamamoto-san, everyone in the audience, please sing along with us!"

Announcer Aiuchi: "All right, let's get ready!"

Shinohara: "All ready!"

Shinohara gives an awfully cheery response!
Does he have his eyes set on the short's theme song too!?

The Big Glee Monster Shinohara takes the center!

However, when the song begins, the dancing gets too hard for him and scares him off!

MONSTERS! MONSTERS! OH YEAH!!!!!!!

Clap, clap, let us all
Clap our hands together, everybody

The audience has already seen the movie, so they act like "Pokémon Musicians" themselves!
The entire room clap their hands together along to "Gaogao All Stars" as one entity!

Finally, it's time for a commemorative photo to pray the movie will be a huge hit!

Summer has finally truly started!

Summer means Pokémon!
Go watch the Pokémon movie in the theater this summer vacation!!

"Pokémon the Movie XY: The Archdjinni of Rings - Hoopa/Pikachu and the Pokemon Musicians" is now in theaters!

Event Report #9: Summer Means Pokémon! A Report from the Premiere Day's Stage Greetings: Part 1

Summer means Pokémon!
The premiere day for "Pokémon the movie XY: The Archdjinni of Rings: Hoopa/Pikachu and the Pokemon Musicians" is finally here!!!

We're making a report from the premiere stage greetings held at TOHO Cinemas Nichigeki 2 at the movie's premiere date!
It was a bustling stage greeting filled with laughter and surprises!
We will give a status report on it across two separate reports!

First of all, Pikachu and Hoopa came on stage.
They were then followed by the movie's guest voice actors, with Tatsuya Fujiwara in the lead!
Satoshi's voice actor Rica Matsumoto and director Yuyama came on as well!
All of them were dressed in coats colored like Hoopa.

Once they had all come onto stage, it was announced that today, with the premiere of the 18th Pokémon movie, the total attendance for the entire movie series had exceeded 70 million people!

It was then time to welcome this commemmorative movie premiere with individual greetings!
First up was director Yuyama's greeting!

70 million people and 18 years are both really huge numbers, but it's because people come watch our movies that we've been able to keep making them for 18 years now.

In this year's movie, lots of legendary Pokémon from earlier movies appear, so you can call it a huge stack of 18 year's worth of material; However when it comes to legendary Pokémon, which Pokémon the audience like differs between which generation they're from.

For me personally, the scene where Lugia first appears gave me this feeling of happiness while I was working on it...

When he says this, he's met with applause from the hall.
Lugia's first reappearance in 16 movies is met with standing ovation!

I also have to mention the short. Creating music with Pokémon cries is something I've always wanted to do. It's something I wasn't quite able to make happen for 10 years now, so it made me extremely happy I could do it this year.

This short could only be completed because the voice actors who are recording Pokémon voices weekly (for the TV series) made me understand that this is what Pokémon should sound like. I truly hope you'll enjoy this movie that's filled with 18 years' worth of experiences.

In another interview, Director Yuyama said you could call the movie a culminaton of 18 year's worth of material.
These greetings truly get people interested in the movie's highlights.

Next up is Satoshi's voice actor Rica Matsumoto! And of course, she greets the audience with...

"I got a Pokémon!"

I am Rica Matsumoto, voice of Satoshi, and I've been saying this line for 18 years now!
Every year I work my hardest so that I can see all your smiles in the theater like this.

70 million attendants total for the series is an amazing number, isn't it?
It's more people than you'd ever meet during a normal lifetime.
Thinking about it made me once again realize how grateful I am that I'm able to bring smiles to so many people's faces.

Let's aim for a 100 million! Deal?

Next up was the voice of Barza, Tatsuya Fujiwara.

I almost had my role as Barza stolen by Shinohara-san many times, (see the report from the public dubbing)
but I won my way through the audition and was specifically allowed to get it (laughs), and as such got to play an important character in the movie.

As I'm now part of a movie series with an 18-year-old history, one that's dearly beloved by many children, I feel like I've appeared in something I'll remember fondly when looking back later in life.
I'm also really happy I wasn't robbed by Shinohara-san...

During the public dubbing, Fujiwara nearly had his role as Barza stolen from him by Shinohara, so he's getting back at him now by laughing about it!
Next up is Koichi Yamadera!

Yama-chaaan, Aa-pee-eee-ear for the 18th time!!

Yamadera then greets the audience with his famliar "OHA!" as well.
This is his 18th consecutive movie role, so you might as well call him "Mister Pokémon" by now... or at least the moderator Announcer Aiuchi from TV Tokyo thinks so, but as Yamadera turns down that title,

Rica Matusmoto interrupts, going "So you're MistAKE Pokémon, then?"

Yamadera: "What is that supposed to mean!? ...Well, (Rica and I,) we're on good terms... yeah.

See, every time an offer like that comes, I get all nervous..."

Rica: "Every time an OHA! comes??"

Yamadera: "No, I did an OHA! just now and that went ok... now I forgot what I was going to say!"

Yamadera and Rica play off each other as if this is a comedy skit.

70 million people, that's more than the entire population of Italy, more than the entire population of Britain, more than the entire population of France!
We've been delivering smiles and excitement to even more people than live in those countries.
I think these movies have turned into something it just won't be a real summer without!

Next, Shoko Nakagawa calls out the familiar greeting "Pokessu!" from "Pokémon Get TV", which airs Sundays at 7:30am, into the audience and gets the same greeting back!

This is Shoko Nakagawa, who's bubbling over with love for Pokémon!

Delight, love, dreams, courage and infinite happiness!
I am so extremely grateful for the Pokémon movies that teach us these things!
Thank you sooooo much for this premiere!

This year, Pikachu-sama is this amazing, extreme hunk of a guy! It fights side by side with legendary Pokémon, riding on top of of one of them all by itself; nothing has ever carried this must charismatic energy ever before!
It's exceeded level 100! It's so incredible! It's so cool!

This year's movie truly is a legendary festival! It's a rush of legends, an onslaught!
Just like Director Yuyama said, all these nostalgic legendary Pokémon appear in the movie as well, and when they did, these feelings, these memories of when I went to see those movies hit me like whoosh!
Each and every one of those Pokemon has a full, dramatic story to it, and all of them can be linked to parts of my own life!
Adults watching this movie will have these scenes from their childhood suddenly well up inside their heads like whoosh, truly giving them rewards to carry with them through their lives! It's that amazing a movie! Yeah!

Next up: Shinichi Shinohara in his first ever voice acting role, playing Hippopotas!

"The Archdjinni of Rings: Hoopa".
This movie is supposed to be the culmination of 18 years worth of material.
What remains in our minds after all those years is Hippopotas.
Don't forget Hippopotas, now!
Ok, let's do that usual thing now, come on!
Huh? You don't know it? It's "Hippossu."

OK! GET READY! AAAAND... HIPPOSSU!

Shinohara's aloof way of talking turned the place into a veritable Shinohara theater for an instant!
We then asked him what he'd want to play next if he got cast in another Pokémon movie. Would it be a Pokémon? A hot guy?

See, I can do everything.
For example,

"Hooo-paaa strooooong!"
, he said, playing the role of Super Hoopa.

"Hey, stop that! You're after all our roles!", Yamadera said.

Then,

"Mary, why are you...", he said in his unique Barza voice.

Then,

"Pika Pikachu", he said, even showing off a Pikachu voice.

He was then followed by Mizuki Yamamoto, who provides the narration for the short.

I remember dancing to Pokemon songs at Sports Day back when I was in first grade.
Pokémon has been close to me since I was very little, and it makes me extremely happy to be able to work with it on this level I am now.

When I heard that Pikachu over there talk a little while ago, it actually moved me to tears!

Mizuki unintentionally gets caught up in her emotions!

I watched this as a regular audience member as well, which made me feel the same happiness as the people in the Pokemon world felt.

Thank you so much for all you've done for me, Pikachu
, Mizuki says, her voice filled with gratitude,
and Pikachu lets out an embarrassed Pii-kaaa!

I'm so happy I get to celebrate this day together with Pikachu!

In the short "Pikachu and the Pokémon Musicians", Mizuki Yamamoto sings together with Pikachu and the other Pokémon!
Announcer Aiuchi asks the audience, who have already seen the movie, what they thought of it, and is met with sound applause!

I was extremely nervous about all this, so thank you so much for listening to me!

,she says, having been moved to tears by the entire episode.

Pikachu then started talking eagerly to announcer Aiuchi from TV Tokyo, the moderator of the stage greetings.

What is it, Pikachu?

To be continued in part 2!

Appear! Movie Details #12: A Special Movie Pre-Premiere Interview with Director Yuyama #4

We're interviewing Director Yuyama about the movie's highlights!
Tomorrow is finally the movie's premiere day!
The big highlight of "The Archdjinni of Rings: Hoopa" is the "Legend VS Legend" concept!
We'll now be asking questions regarding this battle between legendary Pokémon and the place where the battle takes place!

Q: Since the movie is set in a desert city, you went scouting in Dubai, but what kind of place is this Désser City?

The core concept is a place in the middle of a desert filled with hyper-modern skyscapers.
That's the kind of place I wanted to have the legendary Pokemon rampage through.
We started looking for places to base it off, and since Dubai is a hypermodern city in the middle of a desert full of skyscrapers, we decided to go there for our scouting.

Dubai isn't just a modern city, lots of older parts of the cityscape still remain there as well.
The movie goes into the particulars of the great rampage Hoopa went on in the past, giving us a story that spans an entire 100 years, so we designed Désser City as a place where different time periods intermingle, making it a part historic and part modern place for legendary Pokémon to appear in.

Q: And what is the city's iconic building, Désser Tower, based on?

Well, you see there's this giant ring on the top of the building, right?.
It's not based on any particular building in Dubai, but instead on... a certain Pokémon.
You'll find out when you watch the movie.

Q: Can you tell us the highlights of this intense battle being referred to as "Legend VS Legend"?

Legendary Pokémon appear in the middle of this city filled with skyscrapers we've modeled after Dubai and a battle beteen them and Satoshi's side unfolds.
We constructed the city they battle in entirely in 3D, and then you get Satoshi flying through it riding on Latios' back, taking part in this huge dogfight. This battle scene is the one part of the movie we put the most effort into and its absolute highlight.

There's also this sandstorm blowing during this scene.
During our scouting, we went to the top of the Burj Khalifa (*the world's tallest building, at 828 meters), but when we looked down from it, it looked extremely foggy, almost as if a sea of clouds was hanging below us.
It turned out this was a sandstorm blowing through.

It was evening then, and as we were watching the sun go down, I thought it'd be really cool to have the legendaries flying around the scene we were now watching.
I think the finished movie scenes that resulted from that carry a real impact.

Q: Finally, can you say a few words to the audience that are going to be watching the movie in the theater?

This year we have a movie that features a battle between a lot of the legendary Pokémon that have starred in earlier movies on their own, so it's a real big-scale movie.
As such, in a sense it's the culmination of the 18 years' worth of Pokémon movies I've been making, and I'd like you to look forward to how that aspect gets across.
I'd like you all to go watch and enjoy the movie in the theater.

Pokémon the Movie XY: The Archdjinni of Rings: Hoopa/Pikachu and the Pokémon Musicians finally premieres tomorrow, Saturday July 18th!

Summer means Pokémon!
Go on an adventure with Hoopa, Pikachu and Satoshi in the theater!
