Summary
Ash and co. have finally found Kurt, the man they have been searching for. At Kurt's house, Mazie, Kurt's granddaughter, thanks Ash and co. for saving the town and her grandfather. Kurt sincerely thanks them, too. Ash tells Kurt that he has something for him, and that they were sent by Professor Oak. Mazie asks Kurt who Professor Oak is. Kurt tells her that he is the greatest Pokémon researcher in the world. Ash hands the GS Ball over to Kurt. Ash and co. are excited to hear what the GS Ball is, and Kurt says that it's some kind of Pokéball. They sigh over the fact that Kurt doesn't know much already. Kurt reassures them that he will know more once he has a closer examination.

Ash and co. give Professor Oak a call. Ash tells Professor Oak that they are calling from Kurt's house. Professor Oak asks them if they delivered the GS Ball to Kurt. Misty tells him that they already have, but Kurt doesn't know anything about it either. Professor Oak asks them to call again once they learn something about the GS Ball. Ash asks Professor Oak why Kurt is so great. Professor Oak tells him that Kurt is a legend at making Pokéballs out of apricorns. Ash wonders what apricorns are. Misty points to a tree with apricorns growing on them. Professor Oak explains that Pokéballs made out of apricorns have different qualities and effects from regular Pokéballs.

Ash wants to get an apricorn Pokéball of his very own. He runs towards Kurt's workshop. Mazie tells him to be quiet because Kurt is working. Misty and Brock join them. Brock notices the beautiful craftmanship Kurt has. When Kurt is done with his work, he looks behind and sees Ash and co. Ash asks Kurt for an apricorn Pokéball. Misty thinks Ash is being rude, but Kurt takes three Pokéballs from the shelf and hands them to Ash, Misty, and Brock. He tells them that it is a thank you gift for helping him out in the well. Ash holds the apricorn Pokéball in his hand. Mazie tells him that he has a Fast Ball. She explains that apricorns come in seven different colors, and that you can make a different kind of Pokéball from each color. Each kind of Pokéball has its own name, its own color, and its own effect. Ash hopes on getting each kind of Pokéball. Misty notices that Ash is getting a bit greedy about it. Kurt tells Ash that he can make some more, but Ash and co. have to bring him the apricorns. Mazie states that only white apricorns grow around the house, but the rest are up in the hills. So they decide to go into the hills.

Team Rocket has been watching Ash and co. from behind the bushes. They decide to steal the Pokéballs because they know people will pay a high price for them. Mazie leads Ash and co. up to a tree with pink apricorns. The pink apricorns can be made into balls that can capture Pokémon that are the opposite gender. Brock wonders if the pink apricorns will help him capture Nurse Joy or Officer Jenny's love. Ash decides to take a few, but Mazie stops him. She says that the apricorns aren't ripe enough yet, and that you should never take too many apricorns from the tree at once. Ash apologizes and they move on.

Mazie leads Ash and co. to a tree with yellow apricorns. The yellow apricorns can be made into Moon Balls. They are used to capture Pokémon who evolve with Moon Stones such as Clefairy. Ash is about to run towards the tree when Mazie stops him again. She points to the tree. In it are Pineco. Ash looks up Pineco in his Pokédex. Dexter states that Pineco can selfdestruct at the slightest touch. Brock wants a Pineco. He tries to run near them, but he trips and crashes into the tree. The Pineco in that tree selfdestruct.

Mazie points to a tree with green apricorns. She says that they are used to make Friend Balls. Then Mazie tells Ash that he can take some of them since they are ready. When Ash walks up to the tree, a swarm of Beedrill appear. The Beedrill begin to chase Ash and co. They run off the edge of a hill and fall to the ground. At least they avoided the Beedrill.

Ash and co. walk up the hill again. Ash didn't know that getting apricorns would be so hard. Mazie says that gathering apricorns are harder than most people think they are. Mazie points to a tree with red apricorns. They are used to make Level Balls. They run towards the tree, but they end up falling in a hole. Team Rocket comes out, and they say their motto. Meowth then uses a rope to lasso Pikachu. Jessie puts Pikachu into a cage. Pikachu tries to shock the cage, but it doesn't work. Team Rocket's plan is to steal all the apricorns. James holds out a vacuum that will be used to take the apricorns. Mazie tells them that they will hurt the tree, but Team Rocket ignores her.

Ash sends out Bulbasaur. He orders Bulbasaur to use Vine Whip in order to get them out of the hole. Team Rocket is about to use their vacuum when they fall into a deep hole. Ash and co. look down into the hole. They wonder where Team Rocket went. A bunch of Diglett pop out. They reaize that the Diglett must've dug the hole to save the tree. Mazie explains that the Pokémon that live in the forest depend on the trees to survive. Team Rocket slides through an underground tunnel and out of the forest.

Ash and co. continue their search for apricorns. Mazie leads them to a tree with blue apricorns. She explains that they are used to make Lure Balls, which are great for water Pokémon. Ash and Misy think that they will come in handy, so they each grab a blue apricorn. Then Mazie points to a tree wtih black apricorns. She explains that black apricorns can be made into Heavy Balls. They are used for capturing Pokémon that weigh a lot. Ash runs up to the tree, but he is stopped by the Pineco. Brock is excited again because he wants to capture a Pineco.

Suddenly, a strong gust of wind picks up. The Pineco are blown off the tree one by one, but Brock catches each one of them. The wind came from Team Rocket. This time Team Rocket is on a new bike. Attached to the bike is a big fan. Team Rocket begins to pedal the bike to power up the fan. The fan turns on and continues to blow the Pineco off the trees. Brock continues on catching the Pineco one by one. One of the Pineco inches closer to Team Rocket. Brock grabs onto the Pineco. Ash tells Pikachu to use Thunderbolt. The machine absorbs the electricity and makes the fan stronger. Pineco moves out of Brock's arms and tackles Team Rocket off their bike. The fan stops running.

Team Rocket is angry at Pineco. Their second plan is to get Pineco. Jessie sends out Arbok, and James sends out Victreebel. Arbok tries to tackle Pineco, but Pineco dodges the attack. Pineco is about to selfdestruct. It runs up towards Team Rocket. Mazie tells Brock that he can capture the Pineco with his Fast Ball. Brock throws the Fast Ball. Pineco is sucked into the Fast Ball just before Arbok can get it again, and Arbok crashes into Team Rocket. Brock catches the Fast Ball. Pineco is caught.

Team Rocket is now losing patience with Ash and co. They order Arbok and Victreebel to attack. Arbok and Victreebel try to tackle Pikachu, but Pikachu dodges their attack. Pikachu uses Quick Attack on both Pokémon. Then it uses Thunder on Team Rocket. Team Rocket receives a heavy electrical shock, and they blast off again. Mazie thanks Ash and co. for saving the apricorn trees from Team Rocket. Brock sends out his new Pineco. Pineco selfdestructs in Brock's hands. Suddenly, a black apricorn drops on Ash's head. Ash catches the apricorn. They head back to Kurt's house.

Ash and co. give Kurt the two blue apricorns and black apricorn. Kurt agrees to make Pokéballs for Ash and co. Brock asks Kurt if he had found anything new of the GS Ball. Kurt still doesn't have any idea what the GS Ball is. Kurt promises them that he can solve the mystery with a little more time. Brock tells Kurt to make sure he calls Professor Oak if he finds anything new. With the GS Ball delivered to Kurt, Ash wants to win another badge. Kurt mentions to him that the Azalea Gym is open now that the drought is over. Misty tells Kurt that they will come back later for the Pokéballs, and Ash, Misty, and Brock run to the Azalea Gym.
