Nurse Joy is at the Pokémon Center working at the computer. She sees the window tilt open. Nurse Joy walks over to the window. Suddenly, the window fully is open, and a shadow figure jumps in. It approaches Nurse Joy, leaving her in fright. Ash and co. are headed for Mauville City. They decide to take a break at the Pokémon Center. Brock thinks they will get a great view from the top of the Pokémon Center. They see a forest from a distance. Max suggests they ask Nurse Joy where some good spots for Pokémon are at. Ash thinks it's a good idea. They walk into the Pokémon Center, but Nurse Joy isn't there. Pikachu smells something, and it runs up the stairs. It runs into a room and suddenly falls asleep. Ash runs to Pikachu's aid, but he falls asleep as well.

Team Rocket is resting in a tree. Suddenly, a Shiftry that is carrying Nurse Joy jumps up on the tree and knocks them off it. They see the Shiftry jumping from tree to tree. Several Seedot form near Shiftry. Shiftry talks to them and then runs off. Meowth thinks they should capture the Shiftry and give it to the boss. Jessie and James likes Meowth's idea.

Brock wakes Ash and Pikachu up. Brock sees a blueish powder on Pikachu's nose. He examines it and finds out that it is Stun Spore. Ash and Pikachu must've breathed it in themselves. May notices that Nurse Joy was doing research on Pokémon when the incident happened. Max sees a security camera in the room. They rewind the tape and play it on the TV. They see that a Shiftry jumped into the room. Ash looks up Shiftry in his Pokédex. Then on the TV, they see Shiftry putting Nurse Joy to sleep with Stun Spore and then carrying her off. Ash and co. wonder where Shiftry could've taken her. Pikachu points to a tree in the forest. It is the biggest tree there, and Shiftry must've taken Nurse Joy to that tree. They decide to find Nurse Joy and bring her back.

Ash and co. begin to run towards the tree. The tree is a lot further than it looks. Suddenly, a group of Oddish come out to block Ash and co.'s path. They are about to attack with Stun Spore. May sends out Beautifly. It uses Gust to blow the Stun Spore away. Then they begin to run again towards the tree.

Shiftry has finally made it inside the big tree. It lays Nurse Joy down on a rock. Ash and co. continue to run towards the tree when they are suddenly attacked by a group of Seedot and Oddish. They fire their Bullet Seed at Ash and co. Ash and co. take cover in the bushes. They wonder why they are being attacked. Brock assumes the Pokémon are all working for Shiftry. The Stun Spore that Shiftry used on Nurse Joy must've come from the Oddish. Max thinks that they should use May's Torchic to defeat the Seedot and Oddish. May sends out Torchic. It uses Ember to scare off the grass Pokémon. Ash and co. then move towards the tree. Team Rocket sees that Ash and co. also want the Shiftry. They begin to follow them.

Nurse Joy wakes up. She sees Shiftry staring at her. Nurse Joy is afraid of Shiftry and begins to back off. When she looks down, she sees that she is several meters high from the ground. She screams for help. Meanwhile, Ash and co. are being attacked by Nuzleaf. While Ash and co. are running from the Nuzleaf, Max tells Ash that flying attacks against the Nuzleaf will work. Ash sends out Taillow. It uses Wing Attack to strike all of the Nuzleaf. The Nuzleaf run back into the bushes. Then Ash returns Taillow back. Max thinks that the Nuzleaf were waiting to attack them. Brock thinks Max is right. All of the Pokémon must be stopping them from getting any closer to the tree because that is where Nurse Joy is at. Ash and co. know that they must hurry and get to the big tree. Team Rocket is glad that Ash and co. are leading them to the Shiftry.

Nurse Joy asks Shiftry what it wants with her. A whole group of Oddish, Seedot, and Nuzleaf walk in the room. Nurse Joy wonders where she is and what the Pokémon want with her.

A Seedot runs up to Nurse Joy and tells her to follow it. Nurse Joy is led to a sick Nuzleaf. Nurse Joy asks Shiftry if the reason she was brought here was to take care of the Shiftry. Shiftry nods its head. Suddenly, a Nuzleaf tells Shiftry that there are some trespassers. This gets Shiftry mad. It jumps out of the tree and corners Ash and co. Ash sends out Treecko. Treecko uses Quick Attack. Shiftry dodges the attack and uses Bullet Seed. Treecko dodges Shiftry's attack. Then Treecko uses Pound, but Shiftry dodges again. Ash tells Brock, May, and Max to run to the tree while they still can. Pikachu goes along with them. Suddenly, a bunch of Nuzleaf jump out and attack Brock, May, and Max with Bullet Seed. Brock, May, and Max dodge the attacks and continue to run.

The battle with Treecko and Shiftry continues. Shiftry fires another Bullet Seed at Treecko, but Treecko dodges the attack. Both Pokémon then begin to attack each other. Suddenly, Team Rocket comes out, and they say their motto. They want to capture Shiftry. Brock, May, Max, and Pikachu have finally approached the tree. They begin to climb it. When they finally reach the top, they see the Pokémon crowded around Nurse Joy. Nurse Joy tells them that the Nuzleaf is very sick. Brock now understands that the Shiftry brought Nurse Joy to the tree, so that it could take care of the sick Nuzleaf, and it didn't want Ash and co. to get in the way. Nurse Joy asks Brock, May, and Max if they could help her with an emergency treatment. They say yes.

Shiftry attacks Team Rocket, blasting them off again. Nurse Joy and Brock then walks up to Shiftry. Nurse Joy tells Shiftry that there is no need to fight Ash anymore. She promises Shiftry that she will take care of Nuzleaf, however some of the supplies she needs is at the Pokémon Center. Ash wonders how they will get there in time since the Pokémon Center is so far away. Brock asks Shiftry is he can ride on it to the Pokémon Center. Shiftry says yes, and with very fast speed, it takes Brock to the Pokémon Center.

While Brock and Shiftry are at the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy uses a damp cloth to keep Nuzleaf cool down. When Brock and Shiftry come back, Nurse Joy uses her supplies to finally heal the Nuzleaf. Nuzleaf opens its eyes and smiles. Everyone cheers now that the Nuzleaf is feeling better. Nurse Joy thanks Ash and co. for all of their help. At the Pokémon Center, Ash and co. wave goodbye to Nurse Joy. Then they continue their way towards Mauville City.
