Summary
The Hoenn League Victory Tournament has started and Ash is up against the Pride of Lilycove City, Katie. She has managed to knock out the first three of Ash’s Pokémon while only losing two of hers. After a five minute break, the field changes to water so the trainer’s release their seaworthy Pokémon: Corphish and Golduck.

Golduck starts the half off with a Fury Swipes; Corphish counters with Crabhammer. Golduck fires a Hydro Pump which Corphish dodges. Corphish then powers up another Crabhammer. Golduck uses Confusion and Corphish floats into the air. Corphish becomes confused; Golduck lets Corphish down to the platform again and Corphish begins to dance around. Ash calls to Corphish but it just jumps in the water. It comes back up momentarily and smacks Golduck with Crabhammer. Golduck attempts to use Fury Swipes again but Corphish grabs its webbed hands and twirls it around in the air with Vicegrip. Corphish throws Golduck and hits it with Bubblebeam, and it faints.

Katie sends in Venomoth once more and Corphish uses Bubblebeam again. Venomoth uses Supersonic but it has no effect because Corphish is already confused. Ash quickly substitutes in Swellow before any more damage is done. Venomoth tries a Stun Spore but Swellow easily dodges and attacks with Peck. Venomoth Disables Swellow’s Peck but Ash knows that Swellow knows another flying move: Aerial Ace. He orders the attack and it hurts Venomoth badly. The Poison Moth Pokémon uses Supersonic once more, but Swellow easily dodges it using Quick Attack. Venomoth faints and Katie sends in Scizor.

Swellow uses a Quick Attack, and so does Scizor. The two Pokémon continue to charge relentlessly at each other, neither side giving an inch, as Meowth spots them from the stands. Jessie puts her tray of snacks in front of a man and he gets angry at her. James and Meowth quickly offer him some things and he cools down. Lots of other people also order things from them as the battle rages on down below.

Scizor uses Double Team to try and fool Swellow and then charges in with Metal Claw. Swellow uses its own Double Team and follows up with Aerial Ace. Scizor tries a Hidden Power but Swellow dodges it and attacks with Quick Attack. Scizor gives one last effort to use Metal Claw but faints. Katie recalls it and releases her final Pokémon: Walrein. Swellow assaults Walrein with Aerial Ace, and just as it hits, Walrein releases Ice Beam and freezes Swellow’s wing. Swellow tries a Peck but Walrein uses Dive. It comes back up and fires an Ice Beam, knocking Swellow out.

Ash releases Corphish once more, and it has visible damage on its face. The announcer realizes that Corphish is not confused any more as Ash orders a Bubblebeam. Walrein counters with Body Slam and Corphish faints. Both trainers down to one Pokémon, Ash releases Grovyle.

Walrein uses Ice Beam which Grovyle dodges before attacking with Leaf Blade. Walrein Dives again to dodge the attack. Ash commands Grovyle to use Leaf Blade on the water, and the force hits Walrein. The Ice Break Pokémon uses Ice Beam once more. Grovyle dodges again and the Ice Beam freezes the water field. With nowhere to hide, Grovyle uses Quick Attack and Walrein slams into the wall.

With a trick up her sleeve, Katie orders Walrein to use Mimic, and Walrein hits Grovyle back with its own Quick Attack. Grovyle uses Leaf Blade again as Walrein tries another Body Slam. Grovyle dodges the attack and rains down a Bullet Seed. Walrein attempts Ice Beam as Grovyle uses Quick Attack. Walrein also uses Quick Attack. The battle continues as Tyson and the others spectate from their seats. Grovyle moves in close, dodges an attack from Walrein, and hits it with Leaf Blade. The walrus flies across the field and lands hard on the ice. The judge rules it unable to battle and Ash is declared the winner!

In Morrison’s battle, Metang defeats a Machoke for the win, and in Tyson’s, Meowth in Boots defeats a Rhydon with Iron Tail. All three friends move on to the Top 16 in the Victory Tournament. That night, Team Rocket eats the best they have since the start of the Tournament. The boss promises to take them to an all-you-can-eat barbecue if they continue to work hard. Meanwhile, Ash and the others have a Four Cheese Brick Oven Pizza for dinner. Morrison says that he’s not nervous for the next round as Max sees that the pairings are ready.

Everyone heads to the Pokémon Center and, much to the surprise of Morrison, sees that Ash must face Morrison in the next round. Ash asks Morrison if he wants to race to the showers but Morrison declines and walks out of the Center with his head hung. Ash searches everywhere in the Ever Grande area and finds Morrison training with Metang and pretending that they’re battling one of Ash’s Pokémon. But, at the last second, Morrison calls off the attack. Once Morrison sees Ash, he and Metang leave as Brock, May and Max show up. Brock explains that it must be hard to have such a good friendship and then have to battle each other.

Next day, the battle begins on the Ice Field. Ash sends in Corphish to face Morrison’s Girafarig. Corphish starts things with Vicegrip which Girafarig tries to block with Light Screen. The Vicegrip breaks the Screen and hits Girafarig. Morrison orders a Tackle which Corphish dodges, sending the giraffe into a block of ice. Corphish tries another Vicegrip but Girafarig dodges it. Corphish spins around a block of ice with its pincer and Vicegrip gets Girafarig’s nose. The giraffe tries an Iron Tail which Corphish dodges, followed by a Crabhammer. The attack knocks Girafarig out and Morrison recalls it. The judge waits for a couple seconds and then tells Morrison that if he doesn’t choose his next Pokémon immediately, he will forfeit the match...

English Official Summary

The first round of the Victory Tournament finds Ash in a tight spot. He has three Pokémon remaining; Katie, his opponent, has four. Katie's Golduck faces Corphish on a water field and uses its attack to confuse Corphish. Luckily, even confused, Corphish is one tough Pokémon! Its haphazard attacks manage to defeat Golduck. Then it's a tense series of battles as Ash rallies and knocks out all of Katie's Pokémon until only her Walrein remains! Walrein knocks out Swellow and Corphish with no problem, but Ash's spur of the moment tactics and Groyvle's fighting ability are still a force to be reckoned with. Walrein's Ice Beam has the side effect of freezing over the water, which means it can no longer dive to avoid attacks, and Grovyle takes full advantage of the situation to strike fast and hard. Victory to Ash! The next round draw is completed, and to their mutual shock, Ash and Morrison will be battling each other. Morrison runs off, stunned by the thought of battling his friend. And where has Team Rocket been all this time? Still working hard to sell snacks at the stadium! Their boss will even take them out for dinner if things keep going well. Will the promise of food actually keep Team Rocket out of trouble? The next day, Morrison and Ash begin their match. Morrison doesn't have the heart to battle, and his Girafarig is quickly beaten by Corphish. Will he recover in time to make it a good match, or will this experience affect his friendship with Ash?
