Summary
The narrator tells a preview of what happened in the last episode. Magmar uses Fire Blast and Pikachu is left hanging there. Ash tells Pikachu to duck for cover. The Fire Blast takes Pikachu with it. Pikachu is hanging on the edge of the arena. It climbs back up but is tired out. Ash forfeits the match and Blaine walks away.

Back outside, Ash is giving Pikachu a bath. They all discuss of what happened before. Jessie and James have their heads underwater in the hot springs. They are using straws to breathe. Meowth tells them a plan of how to capture Magmar. They sneak down to the volcano with freeze blasters in their hands. They open the door with their guns and ask for Magmar. Magmar pops out and Team Rocket takes aim. They fire two rockets at Magmar. The rockets hit Magmar and Magmar is standing there frozen solid. The ice melts from Magmar. Team Rocket blasts the whole place with their guns. The volcano starts to shake and makes a lot of noise. Blaine and the others run to the volcano. He opens the doors and they see Team Rocket causing trouble.

The ice begins to crack and rocks fall down. The chains holding the gym arena up fall down and destroys it. Steam comes out of the holes and cracks. The steam lifts of the rock along with Team Rocket and they blast off. Lava begins to burst from the cracks There's only a short amount of time left before the volcano blows up. Blaine tells Magmar to start piling up rocks to block the lava flow. Ash sends out Charizard to help Magmar. All Charizard does is sleep. Magmar continues to throw rocks at the lava. The lava overpowers the rocks and so Magmar has to start over again. Charizard is keeping one eye open and watches Magmar.

Magmar continues to throw rocks but the lava is just too powerful. Finally, Charizard picks up a rock and helps Magmar. Brock sends out Onix and Geodude to help out. Ash and Misty send out their water Pokémon to keep everyone refreshed. Even Pikachu is helping out. Finally, the lava is blocked with a ton of rocks. Magmar and Charizard stare at each other with an urge to battle. Blaine thanks Ash and gives him another chance to earn his Volcano Badge.

They decide to take their battle on the volcano. Blaine chooses Magmar and Ash chooses Charizard. They both attack each other with Flamethrower. The attack results as a tie. Blaine tells Magmar to use Fire Blast. The attack hits Charizard. Charizard has grabbed the attack and pushes it into the air. Magmar uses Skull Bash and scores a direct hit at Charizard. Charizard begins to fall into the lava but it uses its wings to fly out. Charizard swoops down and both Pokémon try to push each other off the cliff. Magmar gets the advantage and appears in back of Charizard. Magmar grabs a hold of Charizard and pushes it down into the lava. Magmar and Charizard both go deep into the lava. Ash accuses Blaine of cheating but Blaine tells Ash that under the volcano is part of the arena too. Suddenly, Charizard flies out of the lava and high into the air. Charizard has the advantage now as it uses Submission. Magmar grows dizzy and then Charizard uses Seismic Toss. Charizard spins in a circle several times and throws Magmar to the ground. Magmar falls into the lava but it suddenly jumps out and lands on one of the rocks. The two Pokémon stare at each other. Magmar falls down and faints. Ash is the winner!

Ash returns Charizard back but it shoots fire at him. Blaine congratulates Ash and gives him a Volcano Badge. Ash hopes that Charizard will be obedient. Brock tells him that the next gym is in Viridian City. Ash wonders why Misty and Brock never told him about that gym. Misty tells him that they were fighting. Misty remembers that Ash still owes her a new bike and they run down to get him.
