Script Error

In the Japanese version, Satoshi states that they should stay together so they don't get lost. Kasumi then comments she'd rather not die and become a specter before they got a spectral Pokémon.

Misty in the English dub doesn't say anything about dying and become a ghost but instead she says that the fog that is appearing is actually an omen and they shouldn't bother getting the Ghost Pokémon.

Misty: Maybe this is an omen. Maybe we should forget about catching a ghost Pokémon.
Kasumi: I don't want to become a specter myself before getting a spectral Pokémon.
02:17

Script Error

Satoshi tells her that he thought she was a ghost in the Japanese original. In the English dub, Ash just states he was 'scared' by her.

Ash: Well, Misty, you sure scared me.
Satoshi: I thought you were a ghost!
02:30

Script Error

Ash in the English dub doesn't say anything about going to Lavender Town unlike Satoshi who states they are going to Shion Town

Ash: We've got to learn to deal with fear.
Satoshi: Since we're going into Shion Town, which has spectral Pokémon...
02:53

Script Error

Satoshi says nothing about keeping the mask for Halloween in the Japanese original.

Ash: I'll just save the masks till the next year's Halloween.
Satoshi: You guys are much scarier.
03:15

Script Error

This episode was originally announced under the name "My Friends are Ghosts" (ユーレイはおともだち), but the title was changed to "Getting one in the Pokémon Tower!" (ポケモンタワーでゲットだぜ!) before airing.
04:08

Script Error

Satoshi specifically states he wants to be woken up at 8am but Ash just says he doesn't want to get up too early.

Ash: Make sure you don't wake me up too early, ok? Night, guys.
Satoshi: If you're gonna be like that, then I want to be woken up at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning. Good night.
04:19

Script Error

Satoshi finally admits to Kasumi that he is afraid of ghosts and actually states that. Ash just implies that he's afraid of ghosts by stating that he hopes to be braver in the morning.

Ash: Maybe I'll be a little braver tomorrow morning.
Satoshi: But I'm afraid of ghosts too!
04:31

Paint Edit

The initial airing of this episode features an animation error where Kasumi's suspender are absent in the scene where she bangs the gong. This was corrected in later airings of the episode.

Note that Hulu Japan, which normally offers the version of the episode used for the original airing, has this error correction as well, despite everything else in their copy being from the first airing. As such, the version offered on Hulu, with the correction in place but no other edits made to the episode, has never been available anywhere else before.
04:46

Script Error

Kojiro states that they wanted to beat the brats to Shion Town to help Rocket Gang prepare their plan before the brats arrived. James just says that he thinks their plan will be successful.

James: I'm no psychic, but I see success in our future.
Kojiro: Frantically running ahead of them paid off.
05:43

Script Error

Nyarth complains that Musashi isn't an actress after she stated earlier that the way a face looked was very precious to an actress.

Meowth: It was only a scratch.
Nyarth: She's not even an actress...
06:05

Paint Edit

Just before Team Rocket falls down another floor, pop-up dialog bubbles appear in both the English dub and the Japanese original. The one over Kojiro means in shock (ドキッ) while the one over Nyarth is nya (ニャ), his cat noise.
06:17

Script Error

Takeshi in the original Japanese said the voices sounded like they came from hell but that was replaced in the English dub with Brock saying the voiced sounded like people were being tortured.

Brock: You're right. They must have some kind of torture chamber in there.
Ash: Torture chamber?

Takeshi: You're right. The voice sounded as if it echoed from the depths of hell.
Satoshi: Really?

06:37

Script Error

Takeshi thinks the screams are spectral Pokémon but Brock isn't as specific.

Brock: But I heard a different voice that time.
Takeshi: Are they the screams of spectral Pokémon?
07:26

Script Error

Kasumi specifically asks for the lights to be turned on in the Japanese original.

Misty: Uh, it's kind of dark in here.
Kasumi: Hurry, turn on the lights.
08:59

Paint Edit

The spectral Pokemon in the Japanese original didn't spell "Pull This" properly. Instead they spelt it "Pull Dis" (ひいてちょ!!).
09:13

Script Error

Ash calling Misty's name after she runs out of the room was removed. Brock saying jump instead telling Ash and Misty to wait for him was changed to him saying jump.

Character English Translation Japanese
Ash *Line removed in English Dub* Kasumi!
Brock Jump! Wait! 待って!

09:33

Paint Edit

The banner was painted over to say "WELCOME" in the English dub. In the Japanese original it also said 'Welcome' (いらっしゃい).
11:46

Script Error

The English dub made the lines for Team Rocket understandable for listeners during the Pokedex scene. Ash should have recognized the voices as Team Rocket at that point. In the Japanese original, while there were lines for Rocket Gang, they were purposely inaudible and modified to sound like ghost noises leading Satoshi to believe the spectral Pokémon were down in the hole.

Meowth: Cut it out!
Jessie: Ow!
James: Could you please knock that off? Stop it!
Jessie: What is this?
12:47

Script Error

Musashi is concerned about her looks and body but Jessie is more concerned about revenge.

Jessie: He's going to pay for this.
Musashi: My hair... The cuticle...
14:01

Script Error

Satoshi thought the Leer attack turned into a staring contest but Ash didn't think so.

Ash: What are you doin', Charmander?
Satoshi: This isn't a staring contest.
14:09

Script Error

Satoshi recognizes that Ghost's Lick attack paralyzed his Hitokage.

Ash: Oh, this isn't working.
Satoshi: It's been paralyzed.

Despite the numerous edits in this episode, it really didn't seem to hurt the actual flow of the dub when watching it by itself. There are some noticeable differences, the one that caught my attention was Team Rocket's audible voices from down below that didn't sound anything like a Ghost really ruined that scene.
