Summary
Ash and co. are headed for Navel Island where Ash can earn his second badge. Navel Island is right ahead. A huge mountain sticks out from the island. Tracey thinks that the gym has a Sea Ruby Badge. Ash wants that badge. The group finally arrives at the island. There are a few houses on the island, but the island looks deserted. Then they see a person sailing in the water. The guy hops off his boat, and assumes that Ash and co. came for a gym battle. He introduces himself as Danny. Ash and co. then makes their introductions. When Misty introduces herself, Danny walks over. He thinks she's the most beautiful thing on the island.

Team Rocket are spying on Ash and co. They plan to capture Pikachu this time. Misty notices that Danny has a lot of things in his backpack. Danny tells her that he always plans ahead incase something happens. Misty thinks this is a very smart thing to do, and she knows Ash doesn't do this. Ash tells her that he doesn't have to plan ahead because he already knows of what will happen. Danny thinks that Ash and Misty are pretty close to each other. Misty tells Danny that she would never like Ash. Ash and Tracey wonders what Danny is doing here. Tracey thinks that he's a trainer who has come for a badge.

They approach the front doors of the gym. Ash thinks you that you have to take the cable car to get to the gym. Pikachu points to the sign. Tracey reads the sign. It says, "Welcome Pokémon trainers. All challengers must climb to the top of the mountain. Trainers may not use their Pokémon for help, or they will be disqualified." Anyone else can use the cable cars.

Ash and Danny are busy climbing the mountain. Ash looks down, and he sees that it's a long drop from where he is standing. Misty and Tracey waves from the cable car. Misty tells Danny to be extra careful. Ash gets mad. He trips and falls off. Thinking quickly, Ash grabs onto the mountain. He is about to use Bulbasaur for help, but Danny tells him not to or Ash will be disqualified. They decide to take a rest on the mountain. Danny loves the view of the mountains. Ash thanks Danny for helping him.

Suddenly, a plunger attaches onto Pikachu and is pulled away. Team Rocket appears in the opening as they say their motto. Danny takes the plunger off of Pikachu. Meowth is mad, and he throws the plunger out again. The plunger attaches to a boulder. The boulder creates a hole in their balloon, and Team Rocket blasts off again. The air gets colder and colder. Team Rocket comes across a snowy part of the mountain. A geyser sends Team Rocket away. Ash and Danny have also arrived on the snowy mountain. Pikachu falls down, and Ash rushes to help it. He gives Pikachu his jacket, and hopes that Pikachu will feel better. Danny watches them very closely. Misty and Tracey are waiting at the top of the mountain. Ash calls out to them. Him and Danny have made it too. Danny congratulates Ash by saying that he has passed the test. Tracey and Misty tells Ash that Danny is the Navel Island gym leader. Now Danny and Ash have to battle.

Danny explains the rules to Ash. There will be three rounds. If Ash get win two of the rounds, then he will get the Sea Ruby Badge. The first test is to see who can freeze hot water the fastest. Danny sends out Nidoqueen, and Ash sends out Lapras. The two Pokémon fires their Ice Beam at the geysers. Nidoqueen uses its full strength, and Danny wins the first test. The second test is to turn the ice into sled sculptures. He can only use three Pokémon to help him. The first trainer to make the sled wins. Ash's three Pokémon are Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Charizard. Danny will use Machoke, Scyther, and Nidoqueen. The test begins. While the Pokémon are working, Charizard takes a nap. Ash pleads that Charizard will use its Flamethrower. Charizard uses its Flamethrower on Ash. Then the Flamethrowers carves the ice into a sled. Ash wins the second test.

In the final test, Ash and Danny have to use slide down the hill on their sleds and past the finish line. They can choose up to three Pokémon to accompany them. The red lights turn to green, and they are off. The Pokémon controls where the sled goes. Bulbasaur messes up, and the sled starts to spin out of control. Jessie doesn't like Danny. James and Meowth finishes their trap. Danny falls right into Team Rocket's trap. Ash stops to help Danny out. Danny realizes that the hole wasn't an accident. Team Rocket appears from the opening. Danny asks if Team Rocket are friends of Ash. Ash screams, and tells Team Rocket to go away. Team Rocket thinks that Ash wants to cave in. Meowth presses a button, and the ground falls where Ash and Danny are standing. Then Team Rocket steals Pikachu. Ash uses Bulbasaur to get everyone out of the hole. Pikachu tries to shock the cage, but nothing happens. Then Ash and Danny begins to throw snowballs at Team Rocket. Then they throw Electrode into the balloon. Electrode bounces on the balloon, and Pikachu falls into Ash's hands. Electrode uses Explosion, sending Team Rocket to blast off again.

Now Ash and Danny decides to finish their race. The second the sun comes out, Ash and Danny are off. Misty and Tracey are waiting at the finish line. Ash is about to hit a boulder, but Bulbasaur steers around it. Now Ash is sledding through the forest. Danny has almost made it to the finish line. Just then, Ash comes out, and slides past Danny. Ash and Danny are going the same pace, but Ash hits a rock causing him to pass the finish line. He lands in the water, and a huge wave appears. Danny congratulates Ash for beating him. He presents Ash with the Sea Ruby Badge. Ash takes the badge, and he thanks his Pokémon for their hard work. Then they say goodbye to each other, and they ride Lapras to the next island.
