Summary
Ash and co. sit near a river for a break. Misty takes a piece of her rice ball and feeds it to Togepi. Ash compliments that the rice balls are very good. Brock throws a piece of rice in the air. He throws a cherry in the middle and packages it. All of them seem to be enjoying themselves. Deep in the grass is a person with a camera. He looks at the kids through the lens of the camera. Ash senses something in the grass thinking that there's a guy with a gun. He tells everyone to run for cover. Ash knocks everyone down and the bucket of rice falls in the river. Brock gets mad at Ash. Togepi cries and Misty gets mad at Ash as well. Ash tells them that there's someone in the grass but they don't believe him. So Ash takes out Squirtle and it uses Water Gun at the grass. A boy pops out holding a camera and Squirtle gets returned back into its Pokéball.

Misty asks if the boy is okay and he tells them that he's fine. He introduces himself as Snap. Snap tells them that he just wanted to take a picture of Pikachu. Brock tells Snap that he should've just asked for their permission to take a picture of Pikachu. Snap tells him that he doesn't like Pokémon that are posed. They go to Snap's house. At his house Snap tells them that he took a picture of Aerodactyl. He brings out a magazine of his picture of Aerodactyl. Ash tells Snap that he is the kid who was riding the Aerodactyl. Snap checks it on his computer and proves Ash to be right. Snap apologizes for scaring them earlier and offers to make them pancakes. When the pancakes are ready, everyone happily eats them. Snap gets his camera ready to take a picture of Pikachu. Pikachu smiles nervously. When Snap presses the button, Pikachu shocks him. They try again but Snap tells them that he can't do it. He shows them pictures of Pokémon that are peaceful and not posing. Ash, Misty, and Brock are all amazed at his pictures. So they take out all of their Pokémon and ask Snap to take pictures of them. Snap refuses and tells them that he only wants to take pictures of Pikachu. Ash says that he won't have much luck but Snap disagrees.

Snap has a flashback with encountering two old people. The old people tell Snap to capture Pikachu and they hand pictures of Pikachu to him. They start to cry as the woman tells Snap to capture Pikachu. The old people are Team Rocket in disguise. Snap takes the job. The flashback ends and Snap says that he has to do this for the woman.

At a restaurant, Team Rocket is eating. They are devouring their food down like crazy. There is only one piece of food left but Jessie gets it.

Ash and Pikachu are washing their faces in a river. Snap jumps out and tries to take a picture of Pikachu but only to get a picture of Ash. Team Rocket is digging a hole in the ground. Meowth sees Snap coming and Jessie and James put their disguises on, except they're on the wrong way. They fix themselves and Snap meets up with them. Snap tells them that he hasn't caught Pikachu yet. Jessie tells him they are trusting him. Then Team Rocket walks away. Snap notices that the ground where Team Rocket dugged is soft. He sets up his camera and waits for Pikachu. Ash and co. walk along. Ash says that Snap doesn't even understand the Pokémon's feelings and this makes Snap worry.

Suddenly, they fall through the hole. Snap asks if they are alright. He tells them that he has a rope in his backpack. Pikachu pops out and Snap takes out his camera again. Team Rocket is confused because Snap wants to take a picture of Pikachu. They get mad at Meowth for this. They punch Meowth up in the air. Snap finally takes a picture of Pikachu. Then Snap notices that the ground is crumbling. He warns them about this but it's too late. Ash and Pikachu fall through into the river. Snap comes down to save them. A waterfall is at the end of the river. Snap gets out his tripod and Ash grabs onto it. Snap tries to pull Ash onto dry land.

The two old people come and they congratulate Snap for doing a good job. They say their motto and reveal themselves as Team Rocket. Meowth comes and puts Pikachu in a net. James thows bombs at them. Snap starts to slip because of the explosions. He tries to hang on a bit more but there's not much time left. James takes out another bomb. Ash gets an idea. He grabs a hold of Snap's camera and begins the process of taking a picture of Team Rocket. The bomb explodes in James's hands because of the distraction. Ash gets pulled up. He takes out his Bulbasaur for battle. Bulbasaur uses Razor Leaf and the net tears open. Then Bulbasaur uses Vine Whip. Team Rocket runs away and they jump into the river. They approach a waterfall and fall down.

Ash and Snap share a good laugh with each other. Pikachu jumps down into Ash's arms. Ash tells Brock and Misty that he is now friends with Snap. Snap gets the camera ready to take a picture of Ash, Misty, Brock, and himself. He presses the button. Snap heads down to get in the picture but he slips on a rice ball. He falls backwards, the camera clicks, and the picture is taken.

Note

In the English dub of this episode, Todd Snap's original English name was simply "Snap", and the episode was dubbed originally with this in mind. However, his name was later changed to "Todd". The commonly accepted fan reason is that it was due to fears of cereal company Kellogg's being litigious over the cereal character of the same name, resulting in the episode being redubbed. After litigious fears were cleared, his name was retconned to have both names, resulting in "Todd Snap".

The episodes with the version Todd were used in original US broadcast versions, along with streaming versions. The original version with Snap was used in international broadcast versions, and on VHS, DVD, and BluRay releases.
