Summary
Ash's Turtwig has finally been taught the Energy Ball attack. Ash and Turtwig are now practicing. Turtwig tries to use the attack, but it fails. Kenny thinks that they should practice on maintaining the form of the attack. Ash agrees. Kenny notices that Turtwig is able to concentrate well, which is what a good Pokémon has to do. Ash thanks Kenny and tells him that he should get back to his own training since the Pokémon contest is the next day. Kenny agrees and notices that Dawn is working very hard to prepare for the contest. Dawn tells her Ambipom to use Swift. Ambipom spins around efficiently, and stars fly out of its tail. The stars collide into each other, creating a sparkle effect. Dawn is very impressed with Ambipom's work. She rewards it with a poffin. Piplup, Buneary, and Pachirisu walk up to Dawn, and Dawn gives them poffins too. Brock is also happy with Dawn's work. Dawn plans to use Ambipom for tomorrow's contest. So, her and Ambipom practice some more.

Soon it is night time. Jessie plans on entering the contest too. Apparently, James and Meowth had promised Jessie a contest strategy. James and Meowth forgot about it, but to hide their failure they tell Jessie that she will have the best strategy ever. Dustox is floating right next to Jessie, and both of them imagine a victory at the next contest. James and Meowth realize that they have to create something that will win Jessie first place, or else they will be in deep trouble.

The next day is the big day for the Solaceon Town contest. The Solaceon Town contest is about to begin as the crowd take their seats and the host makes an introduction. She takes out the contest ribbon that the coordinators will be competing for. Both Kenny and Dawn want to win that ribbon. Jessie tells herself that she will be the one taking first prize. When the host is finished talking, she lets the judges say a few words. After the introduction is complete, the contest begins.

Kenny is the first coordinator to go on stage. He sends out Breloom. Breloom begins its debut with a Stun Spore. Spores emerge from Breloom's body, and it really shows Breloom off. Breloom then uses Energy Ball and hurls the attack into the air. Then, with the power of a Mach Punch, the Energy Ball blows up and sparkles fall down onto Breloom. The judges are amazed that Kenny was able to show off Breloom's beauty and power very well. Even Dawn is impressed with Kenny. She knows that he has really improved since the lsat contest. However, Dawn tells herself that she will not give up. Piplup is starting to feel nervous. It knows that Kenny has improved a lot, and he might be able to beat Dawn. Ash tells Piplup that it has to believe in Dawn, and Piplup smiles.

After several more coordinators show off their Pokémon, Jessie appears on stage. She sends out Dustox. When Dustox pops out of its Pokéball, it begins to sparkle. James and Meowth are pleased with Jessie's performance so far. Jessie then orders Dustox to use Whirlwind. The powerful gust of wind picks Jessie off the ground. She begins to float in the air. The audience applauds for Jessie. As Jessie continues to float in the air, Kenny, Dawn, Brock, and Ash notice that Jessie does put on unique performances. For the finishing move, Dustox uses Psybeam on Jessie. The Psybeam creates an explosion. When the dust clears, Jessie is seen standing perfectly on the stage with her Dustox. The audience cheers for Jessie. Ash and Brock realize that Jessie has gotten the loudest applause so far. James and Meowth are happy that Jessie did all right. Even the judges were impressed with Jessie's performance.

The next coordinator is Dawn. Dawn runs on stage and sends out Ambipom. Ambipom first uses Double Hit, followed up with a Swift. The Swift is absolutely gorgeous to the audience. Stars pour out of Ambipom's body, and it creates a rainbow effect. Kenny and Jessie both notice that Dawn is pretty good. Zoey, who is watching the contest from a nearby Pokémon Center, is amazed with Dawn's performance. Brock thinks that the Swift may be a bit much. Ash disagrees and thinks that the Swift is able to attract the crowd very well. When the Swift attack ends, Dawn concludes her performance, and the crowd cheers. Dawn heads backstage, and Ash, Brock, and Kenny greet her. Piplup congratulates Dawn by jumping into her arms. Dawn thanks Piplup for her support. Suddenly, the host appears on TV and is about to announce the coordinators who will advance onto the next round. Ambipom is a bit worried, but Dawn knows that she will make it. The coordinators appear on screen one by one. Jessie and Kenny both make it. It's down to the last coordinator. Dawn is hoping to win, but instead another coordinator's face appears on screen. Dawn is disappointed that she wasn't able to move on to the next round. The host continues on by shuffling up the eight coordinators to determine who will battle who in the next round. Ash and Kenny don't know what to say to Dawn. Suddenly, Dawn looks up and congratulates Kenny. Dawn is completely fine that she lost because she knows that she tried her best. She tells Kenny to do his best in his next round, and Kenny thanks Dawn. Jessie then meets up with Dawn. She tries to push Dawn out the door, but Dawn refuses.

In the final round, Kenny uses Prinplup. It starts off with a Drill Peck. Jessie orders her Dustox to dodge the attack and use Psybeam. The Psybeam directly hits Prinplup, and Prinplup falls to the ground. Time is running up and both coordinators are tied. Dustox then uses Whirlwind to lift Prinplup up into the air. Prinplup counters with Bubblebeam, but Dustox counters with Poison Sting. The Poison Sting destroys the bubbles, and the bubbles create sparkles that show off Dustox's beauty. Kenny loses a lot of points from this. However, just before Kenny can make another move, time is up. Jessie has more points than Kenny, so she is declared the winner of the Solaceon Town contest. James and Meowth are happy that Jessie won. The judges present Jessie with her first contest ribbon.

The Solaceon Town contest comes to a close. Kenny is ready to make his departure. He plans on showing up for the next contest, and he wants Dawn to be there too. Dawn sadly tells Kenny that she won't participate in the next contest. Kenny knows that Dawn is still upset for her loss. He tells Dawn that she cannot quit contests and that he she better be at the next one. Dawn sighs and states that she will be at the next contest. Kenny then wishes Ash the best of luck with Turtwig's Energy Ball. He takes one last glance at Dawn and then walks away. Dawn walks back at the Pokémon Center and into her room. She buries her face into her pillow and softly cries because she lost another contest.

The next day arrives, and Ash and Brock notice that Dawn still is in bed. Suddenly, Zoey appears and tells the two boys that she saw the whole contest on TV. Zoey heads into Dawn's room and takes off the blankets. She tells Dawn that she wants to battle her. Zoey wants Dawn to use Ambipom, and she forces Dawn out of bed. When they get outside, Dawn orders Ambipom to use Swift. Ambipom uses Swift, and a high amount of stars tumbles out of Ambipom's body. Zoey tells Dawn that her mistake was that Ambipom was not receiving a lot of attention in the performance. Dawn was focusing more on the move itself instead of her Pokémon. She didn't portray her Pokémon beauty a lot; therefore she lost the contest. Zoey orders Glameow to use Iron Tail. The Iron Tail destroys all of the stars. Then Glameow uses Shock Wave, and the attack electrifies Ambipom.

Zoey then asks Dawn the reason of why she decided to take a break from the Solaceon Town contest. Dawn nods her head, and Zoey tells her that she needs time to recharge her mind. It is easy to make mistakes if your mind is not clear, so Zoey decides to skip a few of the contests. Dawn has learned something new. She thanks Zoey for the advice. Ash states that their next stop is Veilstone City, where Ash will compete for his next badge. So, Ash and co. wave goodbye to Zoey, and the trio head towards Veilstone City.

English Official Summary

The Solaceon Contest is about to start, and Dawn is eager to show off her Ambipom's spectacular Swift move. The competition includes both Jessie and Dawn's friend Kenny, who's also been helping Ash's Turtwig learn the Energy Ball move. Kenny and his Breloom make an impressive Contest entrance, and Jessie brings out her Dustox for an explosive first act. Then Dawn takes the stage, and Ambipom's swirling Swift lights up the entire stadium—but the judges don't seem impressed by Ambipom's pyrotechnics... Backstage, everyone gathers for the first round results: Kenny and Jessie advance, yet Dawn is out of the competition. As her friends comfort her, she shrugs it off and puts on a brave face, staying to watch the Contest finals and cheer for Kenny. The last round of the Contest sees Kenny and his Prinplup battling Jessie and Dustox, and Jessie wins the match as time runs out. Kenny leaves to train for his next Contest, but he's quietly concerned that Dawn no longer seems to be interested in competing. Just as Kenny suspected, this latest setback has left Dawn deeply confused and upset. The next day, Dawn won't even get out of bed until Zoey, who saw what happened at the Contest, shows up and demands a battle. During the battle, Zoey shows Dawn that Ambipom's Swift move was pretty-too pretty! Ambipom was hidden by all the flash, when Dawn should have been concentrating on showing off Ambipom itself. Somewhat cheered, Dawn takes Zoey's advice to heart as our heroes head for Veilstone City, where Ash hopes to win his next Gym Badge!
