The Wallace Cup contest is only hours away, so Ash and co. decides to join the activities before it begins. May and Dawn are sitting on the bench eating some food, while Ash registers for the contest. Zoey appears and is surprised that Ash entered. Ash replies that he wants to try out some new moves with Buizel. Brock, Dawn, and May approach Ash and Zoey. Dawn introduces May to Zoey. All three girls have registered for the contest.

The next day, the Wallace Cup finally is about to begin. Dawn is already nervous, so May and Zoey help her out. As soon as Marian, the contest host, introduces Wallace, Wallace and Milotic appears from beneath the water and makes a grand entrance. Wallace gives a short speech about how he is excited to see who is the best Coordinator in Sinnoh. The three judges are introduced (Wallace will be the fourth judge), the ribbon that will be handed out to the winner is displayed, and then the contest begins.

May is the first Coordinator to start things off. She sends out Wartortle. Wartortle begins with a Rapid Spin, as it bounces across the pool of water. Then it jumps up and performs an Aqua Tail, showing off the beauty of its tail. Finally, Wartortle lands back onto the ground and finishes off its performance. The judges give their comments to May, and then the contest continues.

After a few more Coordinators, Jessie is next. Wobbuffet uses its Counter attack to send Jessie flying into the air. Unfortunately for her, the judges and audience are not impressed. Zoey is next. She sends out Vineon, and it takes a dive into the water. It jumps up and uses Silver Wind, followed up by a Safeguard. The two moves really shows off Vineon's beauty. It finishes off with a fantastic Water Pulse. The judges comment on Zoey's performance, and the stage gets set for Ash.

Ash takes the stage with his Buizel. Buizel shows off its power by using a combination of Aqua Jet and Sonicboom. It then finishes off with a dazzling Water Gun, which impresses all four judges. Dawn is up next, but she is very nervous. After seeing May, Zoey, and Ash perform so well, Dawn is afraid that she will make a mistake and embarrass herself. Piplup is feeling very confident and knows that Dawn can do it, so it wakes her up with its BubbleBeam attack. Dawn thanks Piplup and regains her confidence back.

She takes the stage with Ambipom. Ambipom starts off with a Double Hit to show off its beauty. Then it uses Swift and Focus Punch to show off its power. The whole area gets covered with water, and Dawn ends the performance. The audience cheers and the judges give off their comments. The first round finally comes to an end, and now it's the judges' job to figure out who makes it to the second round.

Dawn is a bit nervous about the final results, but May assures Dawn to have faith in herself. Finally, the results are displayed on screen. Ash, Zoey, May, and Dawn all make it to the second round. Jessie did not. Dawn is so happy that she make it to the second round. Now the real battle starts because starting tomorrow all four Coorindators are now rivals.
