Summary
Ash and co. have stopped at an island for some relaxation. Psyduck and Pikachu are riding on Lapras. Psyduck is sleeping and falls into the water. Psyduck sinks down underwater. Pikachu starts screaming. Ash and co. hears this, and Misty notcies that Psyduck is missing. Meanwhile a woman and her Tentacruel are fishing. Psyduck comes out of the water and screams for help because of its fear for water. Misty's water Pokémon tells Misty that there is no sign of Psyduck. Ash wonders when Misty became so fond of Psyduck. Tracey thinks that it is love. The same woman comes up to Ash and co. She presents Psyduck to them. Misty notices something different with Psyduck's tail. She thanks the woman for finding Psyduck. Misty introduces herself and her friends. The woman introduces herself as Marina. She thinks that Psyduck is getting ready to evolve. Ash takes out his Pokédex and looks up Golduck, the evolve form of Psyduck. Ash thinks that Golduck is a really cool Pokémon. Misty and Marina thinks so too. It seems that Marina also loves water Pokémon just as much as Misty. Marina makes her own Pokémon lure, and so does Misty. Then suddenly, Marina asks Misty the reason of why Psyduck cannot swim. Ash and Tracey watch Misty make an answer. Misty doesn't really know the reason. Marina then challenges Misty to a battle.

Team Rocket is in their sub trying to find Ash and co. Meowth wants to take over, but Jessie whips Meowth with her hair. Jessie is sick of James and Meowth's complaining. She looks again and sees Ash and co. at last. Marina wants to make it a 3-on-3 battle, and Misty agrees to it. Marina chooses Tentacruel, and Misty chooses Goldeen. Tentacruel uses Wrap attack, but Goldeen's Agility dodges the attack. Goldeen attacks with Horn Attack, but Tentacruel's Poison Sting hits instead. Goldeen is knocked out. Misty sends out Staryu next. Marina comments on how cute Misty's Staryu looks. Misty thanks Marina for the compliment. Staryu's Swift attack knocks out Tentacruel. Marina's next Pokémon is Psyduck. Her Psyduck looks stronger than Misty's Psyduck. Staryu uses Water Gun, but Psyduck's Confusion attack sends the Water Gun right back at Staryu. Misty returns Staryu back into its Pokéball. Marina suggests that they have their Psyducks battle each other. Misy throws her Pokéball, but it is an empty one instead. She orders Ash to get her backpack. Ash throws the backpack at Misty. The throw wasn't good enough, and the backpack ends up falling in the water. Misty picks up a backpack, and out comes a Golduck.

Misty and Marina thinks that Golduck is really cute. Misty gives Golduck a big hug. Tracey thinks that Misty loves Psyduck very much, and it evolved for Misty because it loved her back. Team Rocket spots Golduck. They decide to grab it and Pikachu. Misty and Marina wants to test their Pokémon to see which is stronger. Psyduck starts the battle off with Confusion. A tidal wave comes hanging for Golduck. Golduck rides the wave following Misty's order. Suddenly, the wave turns into a whirlpool, trapping Golduck in it. Team Rocket created the whirlpool. Their sub rises to the surface. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, but it doesn't work. Meowth says that their sub is shock proof. Another tidal wave crashes down on everyone. A net springs out and traps Tentacruel and Psyduck. Ash and co. have landed in a tree. Marina notices that her Pokémon are missing. She sends out Starmie to rescue her Pokémon from Team Rocket. Misty tells Golduck to help, and together Golduck and Starmie swims closer to Team Rocket. Golduck jumps on the rocks. Team Rocket sees Golduck, and they want to capture it. Golduck holds out its finger and uses Confusion. The sub is sent on the beach.

Marina runs to her Pokémon. Team Rocket blocks her way. When they are finished reciting their motto, Jessie and James tells Marina that she can have her Pokémon back. Meowth adds in that Ash has to give Pikachu to them first. Pikachu prepares for an attack. Ash stops Pikachu by saying that Tentacruel and Psyduck will also get shocked if it attacks Team Rocket. Marina tells her Pokémon to get out of the net, but Tentacruel and Psyduck are too weak to escape. Jessie sends out Arbok. She tells Marina to step back, but Marina refuses to step back. Arbok is about to attack Marina when a Water Gun from Golduck sends Arbok back to a tree. Arbok uses Poison Sting on Golduck. Golduck protects itself with a Barrier. A Psywave sends Arbok into the air. Golduck uses Hyper Beam, and Team Rocket blasts off again.

Marina still wonders where her Pokémon are at. Out from the fire comes Golduck carrying Tentacruel and Psyduck. Golduck gives the Pokémon back to Marina. Marina thanks Misty and Golduck for their help. Misty tells Golduck that it is the best, and she gives Golduck a hug. Now it is time for Misty and Marina to finish their battle. Starmie knocks down Golduck with Tackle. Then a Bubble attack weakens Golduck some more. Misty tells Golduck to finish it off with Hyper Beam. Starmie tries to protect itself with a Light Screen. The Hyper Beam breaks the Light Screen and hits Starmie. Marina congratulates Misty for winning the battle. Misty gets out her Pokéball for Golduck to rest in. Psyduck comes out of the Pokéball. Three girls walks by, and Golduck runs up to them. Marina figures out that Golduck just likes to show off for girls. Misty comments on how similar Golduck and Brock are.

Ash wonders where Psyduck was all that time. Tracey figures out that Psyduck was resting in its Pokéball. Misty is disappointed that the wild Golduck tricked her. Marina tells Misty that she should be happy because it proves that she is a great water Pokémon trainer. Using a wild Pokémon in battle and winning the match is pretty good. Unfortunately for Misty, the battle didn't count because the Golduck wasn't hers. Ash and co. sets off on Lapras again. Misty waves goodbye to Marina, and Ash and co. sets off for the next island.
