Summary
Ash and co. are walking on the desert of Mandarin Island. Misty asks Tracey the amount of time it will take to get to the next island. Tracey thinks that it will take three days. Ash wonders if there is anything closer. Trcey looks at his map and says that there is a town nearby. Ash and Misty complains of how they can't walk anymore. Then they see a storm approaching behind Tracey. Tracey looks behind him, and he sees the storm too.

As Ash and co. are running for shelter, Misty falls to the ground. The lightning seems to get closer to them. Tracey finds a cavern, and they take cover there. The lightning comes down again, but a group of Magnemite absorbs the shock. Ash looks up Magnemite in his Pokédex. Another strike of lightning comes down, but the Magnemite absorbs it again. Suddenly, a Jolteon comes out. Tracey notices it right away. Ash scans Jolteon in his Pokédex as well. Two Tauros that are carrying a wagon comes out. Inside the wagon is a man. He tells Ash and co. to hop in the wagon.

The storm clears out. The man says that when the Magnemite absorbs the lightning, he brings the electricity to many towns to power them up. The man blows his whistle, and the Magnemite comes over to him. Tracey sees that the Magnemite are well trained. The man reports that Numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 are charged up. Ash and Misty are surprised that he calls the Magnemite by numbers. The man can see a difference from the Magnemite, but Ash and Misty cannot. Number 6 roams off, but the man tells his Jolteon to send Number 6 back to the group. Misty asks the man of why he can't put the Magnemite in Pokéballs. The man tells her that they would miss the lightning if he did that. Besides, the Magnemite should be able to be free in open spaces. Suddenly, the Magnemite start to get closer to Pikachu. They surround Pikachu, making it scared. Soon the Magnemite have crept so close to Pikachu that only its tail is sticking out. Ash tells the Magnemite to stop, but all he receives is a shock from the Magnemite. The head back on the road again. Ash tells the man about his Orange League quest. The man says that he can take them to the nearest town. He introduces himself as Ethan. Ethan tells Ash to take the harness. The Tauros start to shake a little, but Ash knows that he can handle them.

The rainstorm has picked up again. Lightning comes down, and the Magnemite absorbs it all up. After the storm, the Magnemite goes to sleep. Jolteon takes a nap, too. Team Rocket is spying on them from a cliff. Jessie says that before they take the Magnemite to the boss, they can sell their electricity. Just then, Ethan gets a call from Officer Jenny. She tells him that their town hasn't had power for a day. Nurse Joy comes back bringing in a bunch of worn out Magnemite. The phone line then goes dead. Jolteon starts to bark at the Magnemite. Ethan looks up, and he sees that the Magnemite are drifting away. Jolteon goes ahead to bring back the Magnemite. Team Rocket shows up in their balloon. On the bottom of the balloon is a powerful magnet which has the Magnemite trapped. They say their motto at Ash and co.

James takes some navagrabbers, and he captures Pikachu and Jolteon with it. Pikachu tries a Thundershock, but the attack doesn't work. Jolteon uses a Pin Missle attack. This gets Pikachu and Jolteon free from the navagrabbers. Jolteon then uses a Thunder Wave to bring back the Magnemite. Jessie sends Arbok out to attack Jolteon. Arbok tackles Jolteon, who is sent back at Ethan. Ethan is sent back into a rock, and he injures his arm. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on Team Rocket, and they blast off again.

Jolteon is pretty tired from the incident. Misty and Ethan comes out. Ethan has his arm bandaged, but he still wants to deliver the electricity to the town. Ash decides to go to the town instead. He goes lifts himself on Tauros, and him, Pikachu, and the Magnemite starts their journey. Misty and Tracey tells Ash to be careful. About half way, the Magnemite stops following Ash. They spread out into different directions. Ash tries to blow the whistle, but the Magnemite doesn't respond. Pikachu uses a Thunder Wave attack to bring back the Magnemite. Ash makes sure that everyone is here. He counts the Magnemite. He has eight of them, but he started off with nine. Ash realizes that Number 6 is missing. Ash finds Number 6, but it starts to pull Ash away.

Team Rocket comes out again. Meowth tells Ash that their new machine uses static electricity to capture the Magnemite. Pikachu sees Ash above. Team Rocket comes out, and the rest of the Magnemite drifts closer to Team Rocket. When the Magnemite are close enough, Meowth puts them in a bag. Pikachu tries to use another Thunder Wave, but Pikachu is low on energy. Pikachu doesn't give up. He uses another blast of electricity to try to get the Magnemite back. Team Rocket uses their machine to get the Magnemite. Number 6 decides to help Pikachu. It causes an explosion and frees the Magnemite. Then Number 6 evolves into a Magneton. Ash looks up Magneton in his Pokédex. The rest of the Magnemite flies down to Pikachu, and they restore its power to normal. Pikachu, Magnemite, and Magneton fires a Thunderbolt at Team Rocket together. This powerful shock sends Team Rocket into the air.

At night, Ash has made it to the town. When Misty, Tracey, and Ethan arrive at the town, they see the town with their electricity back. The next day, Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy thanks them for their help. Ethan asks Ash if he wants to team up with him. Ash tells Ethan that he has to compete in the Orange League. They say goodbye to each other, and they set off to the next island.
