Summary:
The first opening theme for Best Wishes! animated series was also called Best Wishes! (ベストウイッシュ!). It debuted in the first episode of the series.
The opening plays off the 'Besuto Uisshu!' double pun with its inherent 'Black and White' animation style. All the backgrounds throughout the opening are black and white with a few shades of gray. The Pokémon in the opening are all blackened out silhouette until Satoshi and Pikachu have encountered them in the Isshu region during the show. The week after they were encountered, they are unveiled in the opening with a sparkling effect while they become colorized and standout from the background.
The opening starts with Pikachu running across a rounded black and white checkerboard globe surface as the opening flare text describes the series. The mysterious creatures of this planet Pocket Monsters... "Pokémon" for short! (この星の不思議な生き物 ポケットモンスター・・・ ちぢめてポケモン!) Now, the story of the young boy Satoshi and Pokémon, their meetings, adventures, and battles are about to begin! (今、少年サトシとポケモンたちの 出会いと冒険と戦いの 物語がはじまる!)
The Pocket Monsters Best Wishes! (ポケットモンスター ベストウイッシュ!) logo drops from the top and then fades off the side as the lyrical part of the intro song begins. Pikachu jumps off the checkerboard globe and into a forest. Pikachu is then seen jumping and walking over Zekrom and then sliding down Reshiram and then flies in the air with them.
Pikachu is then seen running through a city, going through building and then jumping on top of them until it makes one last large leap and ends up falling near a beach. It walks around looking and waving at the Pokémon in the area. Pikachu ends up in a grass field filled with more Pokémon and Pikachu quickly runs past the Pokémon until it reaches a checkerboard surface which promptly begins to break up into separate pieces.
Pikachu begins falling down with the checkerboard pieces and all the Pokémon it previously saw as the checkerboard pieces begin to form a globe surface again and all the Pokémon line up together for a group shot.
